With under eight weeks remaining before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 begins in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings have provided a timely lift for South Africa.

Led by captain Laura Wolvaardt, the Proteas have surged in the rankings following commanding victories over India in the opening two T20Is of their five-match series. They secured a six-wicket win in the first game and followed it up with an eight-wicket triumph in Durban to take a 2-0 lead. The updated rankings reflect contributions from both teams, highlighting strong individual performances ahead of the global tournament.

T20I Batting Rankings: Wolvaardt Steady, India Openers Close In

South Africa’s batting unit played a central role in their rise. Captain Laura Wolvaardt remains in fifth place after her half-century in the second T20I, maintaining her position among the top-ranked batters.

Her teammates also made notable progress. Annerie Dercksen climbed 18 places to 33rd, while Sune Luus moved up eight spots to 35th following their contributions in Durban.

India’s top order also saw gains. Shafali Verma advanced two positions to sixth after scoring 57, closing in on teammate Smriti Mandhana, who holds fourth place. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur climbed two spots to share 11th position after her unbeaten 47 in the opening match.

Elsewhere, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews moved up to third place with 767 points. South Africa’s Chloe Tryon also gained one position to reach 59th after her contribution in the first T20I.

T20I Bowling Rankings: Mlaba Leads South Africa Surge

Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal continues to hold the No. 1 spot among bowlers, though competition is intensifying.

South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba was one of the biggest movers, climbing five places to equal sixth after taking two wickets across the first two matches. The Proteas’ bowling unit saw further gains, with Ayabonga Khaka rising eight places to 25th, Chloe Tryon moving up three spots to 38th, and Tumi Sekhukhune jumping 23 places to 55th.

Among other movements, England’s Lauren Bell climbed to third, while Australia’s Annabel Sutherland advanced to fourth. India’s Shree Charani also improved, moving up four spots to 23rd.

T20I All-Rounder Rankings: Kerr Holds Firm, Proteas Gain Ground

New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr continues to lead the all-rounder rankings, maintaining her position at the top.

South Africa’s Chloe Tryon climbed four places to equal 11th, while Annerie Dercksen rose 11 spots to 29th, reflecting her growing influence in the series. Ayabonga Khaka also made progress, moving up five places to 39th.

Australia’s Kim Garth advanced to equal 74th, alongside UAE’s Samaira Dharnidharka. England’s Alice Capsey climbed to equal 76th, sharing the position with West Indies’ Zaida James and India’s Radha Yadav.

Nepal’s Puja Mahato also moved up five spots to equal 93rd after scoring 53 runs in the ICC Women’s T20I Challenge Trophy 2026.

Momentum Building Ahead of World Cup

The latest rankings underline South Africa’s strong form as they continue their dominant run against India, while both sides refine their combinations ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

With the tournament fast approaching, these movements reflect not just individual progress but also the growing intensity in international women’s cricket as teams prepare for the global stage.
