Cricket South Africa has announced a 15 player squad for the historic five-match South Africa vs Zimbabwe WomenT20I series in Bulawayo. The tour will give several young players an opportunity to step into the international setup, with a number of senior stars unavailable because of overseas franchise commitments or rest.
Regular captain Laura Wolvaardt will lead the side, providing important experience to a squad that contains several emerging names.
South Africa Women Squad
The South Africa Women squad features Laura Wolvaardt, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen, Ayanda Hlubi, Sinalo Jafta, Eliz Mari Marx, Karabo Meso, Seshnie Naidu, Nthabiseng Nini, Luyanda Nzuza, Kayla Reyneke, Nondumiso Shangase, Miané Smit, Faye Tunnicliffe and Caitlin Wyngaard.
Wolvaardt’s decision to remain available gives the team an experienced leader while several younger players get a chance to show what they can offer at international level.
Historic Tour for South Africa
The South Africa Women Zimbabwe tour will be a landmark occasion because it is the first time the Proteas Women will visit Zimbabwe for a bilateral T20I series.
All five matches will be played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo between September 11 and September 19, 2026. The series will provide valuable international exposure for both teams and could help strengthen women’s cricket in the region.
The schedule includes five matches across nine days, with games on September 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
Three Uncapped Players Get Their Chance
One of the biggest features of the squad is the inclusion of three uncapped players. Caitlin Wyngaard, Nthabiseng Nini and Luyanda Nzuza have been rewarded for their performances on the recent SA Emerging tour against Bangladesh.
Wyngaard, a 21-year-old seamer, has impressed with her ability to take wickets and maintain pressure. Nini, who previously represented South Africa at Under 19 level, is another fast bowling prospect who will be looking to make an impact.
Off spinner Nzuza completes the group of uncapped players and could add variety to the bowling attack.
Senior Players Miss Out
Several established South African players will not be part of the Women’s T20I series. Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Tazmin Brits are among the senior names unavailable because of overseas franchise commitments or rest.
Their absence has opened the door for younger players and those who have been waiting for another opportunity in the national team.
Players such as Faye Tunnicliffe, Anneke Bosch, Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz Mari Marx and Seshnie Naidu will have the chance to strengthen their claims for regular international selection.
Important Test for South Africa’s Depth
The Zimbabwe series comes at an important stage for South Africa as they continue building their squad ahead of the 2027 ICC Women’s Champions Trophy.
While the absence of several senior players could make the team less experienced, the tour offers selectors a valuable opportunity to assess their next generation.
For Zimbabwe, hosting the first bilateral T20I tour against South Africa will also be a major occasion. The five matches in Bulawayo should provide competitive cricket while giving both teams an opportunity to develop their squads.
With Wolvaardt leading a youthful side, the South Africa Women squad will enter the series looking to win while also building greater depth for the future.
