Women’s cricket is moving rapidly towards a new level of quality, according to UP Warriorz head coach Abhishek Nayar. Speaking during the team’s pre-season training camp in Bengaluru, Nayar highlighted the major improvements in batting, bowling, fitness and overall athletic standards in the women’s game.
The UP Warriorz coach Nayar has experience working in men’s cricket, including with the Indian men’s team and Kolkata Knight Riders, but his transition to women’s cricket has given him a fresh perspective on the sport. With the Women’s Premier League continuing to grow, Nayar believes the next few years could bring even bigger changes.
Abhishek Nayar Praises Growth of Women’s Cricket
Nayar believes women’s cricket is currently on an upward curve. He pointed to the improvement in shot making, power hitting and the overall range of modern batters.
Players are now increasingly comfortable playing shots such as reverse sweeps and using the full 360 degree range around the ground. According to Nayar, the improvements are not limited to batting, with fitness and athletic ability also developing significantly.
He expects the game to become even faster over the next three to five years. Bowlers could become quicker and develop more unusual bowling actions, while batters are likely to continue pushing the boundaries of power hitting.
Abhishek Nayar Women’s Cricket Transition
The move from coaching men’s cricket to women’s cricket has been an interesting experience for Nayar. He described the opportunity to work with female cricketers as enriching and enjoyable, particularly because of their eagerness to learn.
Nayar also stressed the importance of learning from experienced members of the UP Warriorz setup. Mentor Lisa Sthalekar, chief scout Neetu David, captain Meg Lanning and all rounder Deepti Sharma provide valuable knowledge about the team’s players and the specific demands of women’s cricket.
Rather than approaching the women’s game exactly like men’s cricket, Nayar has focused on understanding its unique tactical and technical requirements.
UP Warriorz Pre-Season Camp
The UP Warriorz camp in Bengaluru from August 10 to 13 focused on several areas that the franchise wants to improve ahead of WPL 2027.
One major focus was finding greater stability at the top of the batting order. The team also wants more consistent contributions from Indian domestic players in the middle order and improvements in fielding.
The franchise is also looking at young domestic talent. Neetu David has been involved in identifying promising players, while the team plans to organise shorter individual camps in Mumbai during the off season. These sessions are expected to provide players with continued technical support rather than limiting development to one major training camp.
UP Warriorz Latest News
The latest UP Warriorz news suggests that the franchise is focused on building a stronger and more consistent squad ahead of the next WPL season. Nayar’s comments also underline the wider growth of women’s cricket and the increasing professional standards around the game.
With greater investment, stronger domestic pathways and more opportunities through competitions such as the WPL, the women’s game appears to be entering an exciting phase. Nayar believes the progress is only beginning, with the next three to five years potentially bringing another major jump in skill, speed and athleticism.
