Scotland Women defeated Pakistan Women by 41 runs via the DLS method in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match at the County Ground in Derby.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and opted to field first, explaining that she wanted her bowling attack to be tested ahead of the main tournament. However, Scotland took full advantage, posting an imposing 187/5 before reducing Pakistan to 62/5 in nine overs when heavy rain brought an early end to the contest.
Kathryn Bryce powers Scotland to imposing total
Scotland’s innings was built around a superb knock from captain Kathryn Bryce, who smashed 94 from just 43 deliveries to put her side in a commanding position.
Opener Darcey Carter provided strong support with 45 off 36 balls, helping establish a solid platform. Katherine Fraser added 19 from 19 deliveries, while Priyanaz Chatterji remained unbeaten on 18 from 14 balls. Sarah Bryce and Megan McColl were unable to make significant contributions, falling for 1 and 7 respectively.
Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring throughout the innings. Captain Fatima Sana conceded 40 runs from her four overs without taking a wicket. Tasmia Rubab claimed 1/32 from four overs, while Sadia Iqbal was the most economical of the attack with figures of 1/23 from three overs.
Rameen Shamim returned 0/32, Nashra Sandhu finished with 0/28, and Ayesha Zafar picked up 1/32, with all three completing three overs each.
Pakistan stumble before rain ends chase
Set a target of 188, Pakistan’s reply never gained momentum. Gull Feroza struck an early boundary during her brief innings of 7 from 5 balls before becoming one of the first wickets to fall.
Muneeba Ali top-scored with 20 from 22 deliveries and hit the team’s only six of the innings. Saira Jabeen and Ayesha Zafar managed just one run apiece before being dismissed by Niamh Slater and Katherine Fraser respectively.
Iram Javed briefly counterattacked, scoring 14 from 9 balls with two boundaries before being caught off the bowling of Abbi Aitken-Drummond (Abel). Captain Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 12 from 7 balls, while Aliya Riaz was not out on 1 from 2 deliveries as Pakistan reached 62/5, aided by six extras, before rain halted play.
Scotland bowlers complete dominant performance
Scotland’s bowling attack backed up the efforts of their batters with a disciplined display. Rachel Slater led the way with figures of 2/11 from her two overs, making the biggest impact on Pakistan’s struggling top order.
Katherine Fraser also impressed, claiming 1/13 from two overs, while captain Kathryn Bryce contributed with 1/14 from her two-over spell.
Chloe Abel chipped in with 1/9 from a single over, Kirstie Gordon conceded 11 runs in her only over without taking a wicket, and leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood delivered an economical over that cost just three runs.
Scotland enjoyed a near-perfect outing, with Bryce’s explosive 94 providing the foundation for a formidable total before the bowling unit completed a comprehensive victory.
For Pakistan, the decision to bowl first did not pay off as their attack struggled to contain Scotland’s batters, and an early batting collapse left them well behind the required rate before the weather intervened.
