West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has made history by becoming the first player to win the ICC Player of the Month award five times, moving ahead of India batter Shubman Gill.
Matthews claimed the July 2026 honour after an outstanding ODI series against Ireland, where she dominated with both bat and ball during West Indies’ 3-0 series victory.
While Justin Greaves claimed his first Player of the Month award for July 2026, surpassing other nominees Harry Brook and Tanzid Hasan, it marks a historic double with Hayley Matthews for West Indies. They are the first-ever West Indies players to have won monthly awards in the same month.
Matthews Stars Against Ireland
The all-rounder produced one of her best performances in the opening ODI at Bready. She first took three wickets before smashing an unbeaten 159 to guide West Indies to victory.
Matthews followed that with another century in the second ODI and finished the series with 265 runs at an average of 132.50.
She also took seven wickets at an average of 17.57, underlining her all-round impact throughout the tour.
Record Fifth ICC Monthly Award
Matthews has now won the ICC Player of the Month award in:
- November 2021
- October 2023
- April 2024
- June 2025
- July 2026
Her fifth victory is the most by any player since the award was introduced.

One of the Leading All-Rounders in World Cricket
Matthews recently featured for MI London in the Women’s Hundred and continues to strengthen her reputation as one of the best all-rounders in the women’s game.
She has scored 3,566 runs in 108 ODIs and 3,382 runs in 127 T20Is.
Matthews is also currently ranked as the No. 1 T20I all-rounder and No. 2 ODI all-rounder in the world.
Her record-breaking fifth ICC monthly award adds another major achievement to an already impressive career.
