Australia Women highlighted their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up campaign with an impressive six-wicket victory over West Indies Women at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Chasing a modest target of 132, Australia reached 132/4 in just 15 overs.
The Australians produced a complete team performance, combining disciplined bowling with aggressive batting to secure a comfortable win ahead of the tournament thanks to a match-winning innings from Georgia Voll .
Australian Bowlers Restrict West Indies
After winning the toss, West Indies Women elected to bat first but struggled to build substantial partnerships against a well-organized Australian bowling attack.
Qiana Joseph was dismissed for 5, while captain Hayley Matthews managed 15 from 19 deliveries before being bowled by Georgia Wareham. Aaliyah Alleyne added 10 runs as West Indies slipped to 52/3 during the early stages of the innings.
Experienced all-rounder Deandra Dottin provided the main resistance, scoring 46 from 38 balls and striking six boundaries. Dottin looked capable of leading a late charge but lacked meaningful support from the middle order.
Jahzara Claxton contributed 15 from 17 deliveries, while Chinelle Henry made 9 and Jannillea Glasgow remained unbeaten on 8. However, Australia continued to apply pressure and prevented the West Indies batters from accelerating during the closing overs.
The innings lost momentum completely in the final stages. Shemaine Campbelle scored just 2, Mandy Mangru added 6, and Zaida James was dismissed without scoring. Afy Fletcher contributed 5 runs as West Indies were eventually bowled out for 131 in 20 overs.
Australia’s bowlers shared the workload effectively. Lucy Hamilton impressed with figures of 2/19 from three overs, while Ashleigh Gardner claimed 2/17. Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Nicola Carey, and Kim Garth each picked up a wicket to ensure West Indies never gained control of the innings.
Voll Leads the Chase
Australia’s response began in dominant fashion through openers Beth Mooney and Georgia Voll.
The pair attacked from the outset and quickly put the West Indies bowlers under pressure. Mooney looked in excellent touch, scoring 34 from only 18 balls, including three boundaries and a six, before retiring out.
While Mooney provided the early momentum, it was Georgia Voll who controlled the chase from start to finish.
The talented batter produced a composed yet aggressive innings, remaining unbeaten on 77 from 48 deliveries. Voll struck ten fours and two sixes, consistently finding gaps and rotating the strike while ensuring Australia remained comfortably ahead of the required rate.
West Indies Unable to Create Pressure
West Indies managed a few breakthroughs during the middle overs. Karishma Ramharack dismissed Ellyse Perry for 5, while Qiana Joseph removed Ashleigh Gardner after she scored 7. Hayley Matthews also claimed the wicket of Georgia Wareham.
Despite those wickets, Australia were never seriously threatened. Voll continued to dominate the chase, while Annabel Sutherland remained unbeaten on 6 to help guide the team home.
The pair completed the chase with five overs remaining, underlining Australia’s dominance throughout the contest.
Positive Start for Australia
The result provided Australia with several encouraging signs ahead of the World Cup. Georgia Voll’s outstanding knock highlighted the depth in the batting lineup, while the bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance that kept West Indies under constant pressure.
For West Indies, Deandra Dottin’s 46 was a major positive, but the lack of significant contributions from the rest of the batting order will be a concern as the tournament approaches.
Australia, meanwhile, will be pleased with both their batting and bowling performances as they continue preparations for another World Cup campaign.
