India Women endured a challenging tour of South Africa, going down 4-1 in the five-match T20I series played from April 17 to 27, 2026. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur and coached by Amol Muzumdar, the side struggled to match the consistency of Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa Women.
The hosts secured victories by six, eight, and nine wickets in the first three matches, before India responded with a 14-run win in the fourth T20I. However, South Africa sealed the series emphatically with a 23-run victory in the final match at Benoni, where India managed 132 for 8 in pursuit of 156.
Muzumdar Reflects on Series Outcome
Speaking after the series, head coach Amol Muzumdar acknowledged the disappointing result but pointed to the experience gained during the tour.
“I think it’s been a fantastic series,” Muzumdar said. “It was highly competitive, and we expected that right from the start. Coming here to South Africa has been a great experience. Obviously, the results haven’t gone our way, and we are a little disappointed with the 4–1 outcome, but we have taken a lot of learnings from the series.”
Areas of Concern and Improvement
Muzumdar identified key areas that required attention, particularly India’s inability to strike early with the ball and finish strongly with the bat.
“Initially, one concern for us was not being able to pick up wickets in the powerplay. Also, our finishing with the bat needed improvement. However, we addressed those areas in the last three games. Credit to South Africa, and especially to Laura Wolvaardt, the way she batted was outstanding. She has been brilliant throughout the series,” Muzumdar added.
Positives Despite Defeat
The coach emphasised that the team would benefit from the lessons learned over the course of the tour and the preparatory camp that preceded it.
“The camp prior to this tour also involved a lot of hard work from the girls,” he said. “We’ve learned a lot during this month of April. While the results haven’t gone our way, I am sure we will take away valuable lessons from this series.”
India will now look to build on those takeaways as they prepare for upcoming international challenges.
