Scotland Women produced an impressive all-round display to defeat Netherlands Women by 58 runs in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up fixture at the County Ground in Derby. After being asked to bat first, Scotland posted 163/5 before restricting the Netherlands to 105/9 in reply.
Scotland made a brisk start through opener Darcey Carter, who struck 33 from 22 deliveries and found the boundary six times. Although Katherine Fraser was dismissed without scoring, captain Kathryn Bryce helped stabilize the innings with a measured 32 off 32 balls.
The middle order maintained the momentum, with Sarah Bryce contributing 20 from 17 balls and Megan McColl adding 14 from 15 deliveries. Scotland’s innings gained significant late acceleration thanks to an unbeaten partnership between Priyanaz Chatterji and Gabriella Fontenla. Chatterji finished on 32 not out from 20 balls, while Fontenla remained unbeaten on 20 from 14 deliveries, helping Scotland reach a challenging total of 163/5. An additional 12 runs came through extras.
The Netherlands employed nine bowlers during the innings, with Silver Siegers emerging as the most successful. She claimed 2 wickets for 15 runs from three overs. Iris Zwilling (1/23), Isabel van der Woning (1/22), and Myrthe van den Raad (1/12) each picked up a wicket. Caroline de Lange delivered a tidy spell of 0/23 from three overs, while Hannah Landheer and Frederique Overdijk proved more expensive, conceding 24 and 21 runs respectively in their two-over spells.
In pursuit of 164, the Netherlands never managed to establish any rhythm. Their top order struggled badly, with Heather Siegers (5), Babette de Leede (1), and Sterre Kalis (1) all departing early as the score slipped to 13/3.
Phebe Molkenboer attempted to rebuild the innings with 25 from 26 balls, while Robine Rijke added 17 from 18 deliveries. However, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Sanya Khurana was dismissed without scoring, and the lower order found it difficult to sustain any meaningful challenge.
Frederique Overdijk provided the brightest contribution for the Netherlands, remaining unbeaten on 28 from 24 balls. Caroline de Lange added 14, while Iris Zwilling scored 2, Myrthe van den Raad was dismissed without scoring, and Silver Siegers was run out for 5. The Netherlands eventually closed on 105/9, aided by seven extras.
Scotland’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase. Katherine Fraser led the attack with excellent figures of 3/21 from four overs. Abtaha Maqsood delivered a disciplined spell, taking 2/16 from her four overs, while Gabriella Fontenla produced outstanding figures of 2/2 in two overs.
Olivia Bell chipped in with 1/11 from two overs, and Chloe Abel added 1/24 from three overs. Rachel Slater and Maisie Maceira went wicketless but contributed to the sustained pressure that prevented the Netherlands from mounting a challenge.
Scotland’s victory was built on a powerful finish with the bat from Priyanaz Chatterji and Gabriella Fontenla, followed by a disciplined bowling performance led by Katherine Fraser and Abtaha Maqsood. For the Netherlands, an early collapse in the chase and an inability to contain Scotland’s late scoring surge proved costly.
