South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2026 after an outstanding run across both ODI and T20I formats.
The Proteas batter edged out Sri Lanka’s Imesha Dulani and Brazil’s Laura Cardoso to secure the honour, marking her third win in the past seven months following previous awards in October and December.
Dominant Form Across Formats
Wolvaardt’s latest recognition comes ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales, with the South African skipper enjoying a prolific month at the crease.
“It feels incredible to win a third ICC Player of the Month award in such a short span of time, and I hope to continue batting with the same confidence and consistency,” Wolvaardt said.
Her April campaign began in the ODI series against New Zealand, where she scored 138 runs in two matches at an average of 69.00, anchoring the top order.
T20I Brilliance Against India
Wolvaardt carried that form into the T20I series against India, producing a dominant display across five matches. She accumulated 330 runs at an average of 82.50 and a strike rate of 168.36, including one century and three half-centuries, as South Africa claimed a 4-1 series win.
“This has been one of the most enjoyable phases of my career and it’s especially satisfying to have achieved success across formats,” she said.
Her standout performance came in the third T20I, where she scored 115 off 53 balls in a chase of 192, guiding South Africa to a nine-wicket victory. The innings featured 14 boundaries and five sixes and marked her third T20I century.
Building Momentum Ahead of World Cup
South Africa’s convincing series win over India has strengthened their position heading into the upcoming T20 World Cup, with Wolvaardt’s consistency playing a key role in the team’s recent success.
“What makes this award even more special is that these performances came against the reigning World Cup and T20 World Cup champions, which is something I truly cherish,” she said.
The 27-year-old has continued to evolve as both a batter and leader, contributing significantly to South Africa’s strong run in international cricket.
Team Support and Future Focus
Wolvaardt also highlighted the role of her teammates and support staff during her recent performances.
“I’m grateful to my team-mates for their constant support, and I hope to carry this form into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup next month in England and Wales,” she said.
With the global tournament approaching, her form provides South Africa with momentum and confidence as they prepare for the challenge ahead.
