In women’s cricket, taking a five-wicket haul in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is remains a rare and remarkable achievement, demanding adaptability and consistency across formats. Only four bowlers have accomplished this feat — India’s Jhulan Goswami and Deepti Sharma, England’s Jenny Gunn, and Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner. Deepti Sharma became the latest entrant on April 25, 2026, following her career-best 5 for 19 in the fourth T20I against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Defending 186, Deepti’s spell secured a 14-run win along with the Player of the Match award, helping India register their first victory on the South African tour ahead of the final T20I on April 27, 2026, in Benoni (5:30 PM IST). With India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales (June 12–July 5), these milestones underline the legacy of elite performers across eras.
Jhulan Goswami (India)
Jhulan Goswami, one of India’s most celebrated fast bowlers, completed the milestone in 2012 when she recorded her maiden T20I five-wicket haul (5/11) against Australia in Visakhapatnam on March 23. Over a career that spanned two decades before her retirement on September 24, 2022, Goswami built an outstanding record across formats.
She claimed 255 ODI wickets at an average of 22.04 in 204 matches, including seven four-wicket hauls and two five-fors, with her first five-wicket haul being 5/16 against England in Silchar on December 7, 2005. In T20Is, she picked up 56 wickets at 21.94 in 67 innings, while in Tests she finished with 44 wickets at 17.36 in 12 matches, including three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul.
Jenny Gunn (England)
England’s Jenny Gunn was among the early bowlers to achieve this milestone, completing the set on August 13, 2014, with figures of 5/19 in a Test against India at Wormsley.
Gunn’s international career, which began in 2004, saw her take 136 ODI wickets at 28.10 in 136 innings, including two five-wicket hauls. In T20Is, she claimed 75 wickets at 19.82 in 104 matches, with her best figures of 5/18 against New Zealand in Bridgetown on October 22, 2013. She also took 29 wickets in 11 Test matches at an average of 22.24. Gunn retired from international cricket on October 15, 2019.
Ashleigh Gardner (Australia)
Ashleigh Gardner joined the list on December 11, 2024, when she registered 5/30 in an ODI against India at the W.A.C.A. in Perth. Since her international debut in 2017, Gardner has established herself as a key all-rounder for Australia.
She has taken 124 ODI wickets at an average of 22.43 in 93 matches. In T20Is, she has 81 wickets at 20.92 in 100 matches, including her best of 5/12 against New Zealand in Paarl on February 11, 2023. In Tests, she has claimed 31 wickets at 19.32 in eight matches, including a five-wicket haul of 8/66 against England in Nottingham on June 22, 2023.
Deepti Sharma (India)
Deepti Sharma’s entry into this exclusive group came with her 5 for 19 against South Africa, marking her first five-wicket haul in T20Is since debuting on January 31, 2016, against Australia in Sydney.
Across formats, Deepti has built an impressive record with 346 international wickets. In ODIs, she has 166 wickets at an average of 27.69 in 124 matches, including two five-wicket hauls and two six-wicket hauls, with her first five-for being 6/20 against Sri Lanka in Ranchi on February 19, 2016. In T20Is, she has taken 156 wickets at 19.43 in 137 innings, while in Tests she has 22 wickets at 19.50 in nine innings, including a best of 5/7 against England in Navi Mumbai on December 14, 2023.
At 24, Deepti continues to play a key role in India’s plans as they prepare for major global tournaments.
