Bangladesh have recalled batter Sarmin Sultana to their ODI setup for the first time in seven years, naming her in the squad for the upcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka. Her inclusion is part of three changes made to the squad that previously featured at the World Cup in India late last year.

Offspinner Sultana Khatun and uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous are the other additions for the series. Meanwhile, Rubya Haider, Nishita Akter, and Sumaiya Akter have been left out from the World Cup squad for the matches against Sri Lanka.

Sarmin, now 32, last appeared in an ODI during Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan in November 2019, which was her 13th match in the format. She most recently featured in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 tournament in February, where Bangladesh finished runners-up after losing the final to India. Khatun’s most recent ODI outing came in January 2025, while Ferdous earned her maiden Bangladesh call-up at the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal in February but is yet to debut in ODIs.

This series will mark Bangladesh’s return to ODI cricket following a challenging World Cup campaign last year, where they managed just one win from seven matches and ended seventh in the eight-team standings.

For Sri Lanka, this will be their first bilateral women’s ODI series on Bangladeshi soil. The two sides last met in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka in 2023, which the hosts won. Sri Lanka also hold an unbeaten record against Bangladesh in women’s ODIs, winning all three out of the five completed matches between the teams. Their most recent encounter came at the 2025 World Cup, where Sri Lanka secured a narrow seven-run victory.

The ODI series will be played in Rajshahi on April 20, 22, and 25. It will be followed by a three-match T20I series scheduled for April 28 and 30, and May 2 in Sylhet.
