Ireland Women secured a narrow one-run victory over West Indies Women via the DLS method in the fourth match of the Ireland Tri-Nation Women’s T20I Series in Dublin. In a rain-affected contest, captain Orla Prendergast lead with an unbeaten half-century.
West Indies Women struggled early as Ireland’s bowlers struck at regular intervals during the powerplay. Captain Hayley Matthews fell for 1, while Deandra Dottin (16) and Qiana Joseph (12) also departed quickly, leaving the visitors at 33/3 inside five overs.
Middle-Order Effort Lifts West Indies
With the top order under pressure, Stefanie Taylor and Jahzara Claxton attempted to rebuild before Claxton was run out for 11. Taylor then retired hurt on 9, further denting West Indies’ progress.
A recovery came through Shemaine Campbelle and Jannillea Glasgow, who added 48 runs for the fifth wicket. Campbelle scored 21, while Glasgow top-scored with 36 from 26 balls, hitting six boundaries.
Late contributions from Aaliyah Alleyne (6) and Zaida James (14) helped push the total, as West Indies finished on 141/8 in 20 overs.
Ireland’s bowling unit delivered a collective performance, with Ava Canning returning 2/11 and Prendergast picking up 2/26. The fielding effort also proved crucial, with three run-outs restricting the final total.
Early Setbacks in the Chase
Chasing a revised target of 99 from 14.1 overs, Ireland suffered an early collapse. Alana Dalzell and Arlene Kelly were dismissed cheaply, reducing the hosts to 2/2.
Rebecca Stokell and Orla Prendergast then steadied the innings with a vital 58-run partnership. Stokell contributed 12 before being dismissed, but the stand shifted momentum back towards Ireland.
Prendergast Seals the Win
Prendergast continued to anchor the chase, building smaller partnerships despite wickets falling at the other end. Leah Paul (1) and Alice Tector (3) departed, leaving Ireland at 65/5 and the contest finely balanced.
However, Prendergast remained composed and found support from Louise Little. The pair added an unbeaten 34-run stand, guiding Ireland to 99/5 in 14.1 overs.
Prendergast finished unbeaten on 71 from 46 balls, striking 11 fours and a six, while Little remained not out on 9, sealing a thrilling one-run victory.
“I’m definitely feeling good ahead of the World Cup, so just looking forward to get going over there,” Prendergast said after receiving her Player of the Match award.
West Indies Fight Falls Short
West Indies bowlers made strong efforts to defend their total. Shawnisha Hector picked up 2/21, while Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph claimed a wicket each.
Despite their efforts, Ireland’s late composure ensured they edged ahead in a closely fought encounter.
