The road to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September–October has begun with the Qualifier round in Malaysia from May 26 to 31, 2026. Six teams are taking part in the qualification event, split into two groups. Group A includes Thailand, Hong Kong and Malaysia, while Group B features China, Indonesia and Nepal.
Indonesia, captained by Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini, faced Mingyue Zhu-led China in the second match of the opening day of the Asian Games Women’s T20 Qualifier on May 26, 2026, at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. Earlier at the same venue, Thailand opened the tournament with an 89-run win over Hong Kong.
Indonesia chose to bat first after Sakarini won the toss, but they were put under pressure early as their top order was dismissed inside the first seven overs. Ni Made Putri Suwandewi then joined Sakarini at the crease, and the pair rebuilt the innings with an important 48-run fourth-wicket partnership that helped Indonesia move past 50.
China responded strongly by removing both set batters in quick succession. Suwandewi was dismissed for 15 off 12 balls, while Sakarini made 37 from 46 deliveries before returning to the pavilion. Indonesia could not regain control after those wickets and continued to lose batters regularly.
They eventually finished on 82/9 from their 20 overs. Desi Wulandari, with 10 off 15 balls, was the only other Indonesian batter to reach double figures. The innings also included six extras.
For China, Ma Ruike returned figures of 4-1-9-2, while Wang Huiying took 2 wickets for 14 runs from her four overs. Zhao Yihan finished with 4-0-18-1, and Jiaping Li recorded 3-0-17-1. Captain Mingyue Zhu also bowled an impressive spell, conceding only 11 runs from her four overs without taking a wicket.
Chasing 83 on a difficult surface, China also suffered an early collapse as their top order fell inside the powerplay. Wang Huiying then joined Mingyue Zhu, and the pair steadied the chase with a much-needed 31-run fourth-wicket stand.
Ni Kadek Fitria Rada Rani ended the partnership in the 12th over by dismissing Wang Huiying for 12 off 18 balls, giving Indonesia a key fourth breakthrough.
China still had work to do, but another crucial partnership moved them closer to victory. Chen Xinyu and Mingyue Zhu added 29 runs for the seventh wicket, taking their side to the brink of a tense win. Chen remained unbeaten on 13 from 18 balls, while Zhu made a composed 32 off 38 deliveries.
China eventually crossed the line with three wickets in hand and one ball remaining. Their innings included 14 extras.
For Indonesia, Ni Ariani was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-14-2. Ni Made Putri Suwandewi took 1 wicket for 14 runs in four overs, while Sang Maypriani finished with 4-0-18-1. Ni Kadek Fitria Rada Rani also contributed with 3.5-0-19-1.
Mingyue Zhu was named Player of the Match for her calm innings under pressure and her economical spell with the ball.
