Malawi Women delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Mozambique Women in the Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026, producing a clinical display with both ball and bat in a one-sided contest in Gaborone.
Asked to bat first, Mozambique Women struggled to build any momentum as Malawi’s bowlers struck early and regularly. Olga Mondlane and Palmira Cuinica were both dismissed for ducks, with Lucy Malino and Sugeni Kananjii setting the tone with early breakthroughs. Amelia Mundundo and Wisley Bucuane also fell without making an impact, leaving Mozambique in trouble with four wickets down for minimal runs.
The pressure continued as Irene Mulhovo was dismissed cheaply, reducing Mozambique to five down quickly. Cristina Magaia then attempted to stabilise the innings with a determined 25 off 26 balls, hitting three boundaries. She received some support from Regina Mazumba, who added 11 runs, while Laura Chipanga contributed 5. However, the lack of sustained partnerships meant wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Malawi’s bowling unit maintained control throughout. Lucy Malino was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 4 for 3 in her four overs, dismantling the top and middle order. Sugeni Kananjii supported well with 2 for 14, while Sophia Chinawa and Winnie Matabwa picked up one wicket each. Mozambique were eventually bowled out for 60 in 14.5 overs, with extras contributing 17 runs.
In reply, Malawi Women approached the chase with composure. Sophia Chinawa made 5 before being dismissed, but Euless Chiralile steadied the innings with 15 off 18 balls, forming a key partnership with Praise Maziya to guide the team through the early phase.
Sugeni Kananjii then added momentum with a quick 13 off 10 deliveries, including two boundaries, pushing the scoring forward. Maziya remained unbeaten on 10, while Christina Bwanali provided support as Malawi moved towards the target.
Mozambique’s bowlers had limited opportunities to defend the low total. Angelica Salomao was the most effective, taking 2 for 17, while Laura Chipanga claimed one wicket.
Malawi completed the chase in 12.3 overs, finishing on 61 for 3 to seal a seven-wicket win with 45 balls remaining. Lucy Malino was named Player of the Match for her decisive bowling performance, as Malawi underlined their strength with a comprehensive victory.
