Sri Lanka U19 Women, led by Chamodi Praboda, edged past England U19 Women, captained by Genevieve Jeer, by 8 runs in the second T20 match of the ongoing Under-19 Tri-Series in Australia. The game was played on April 12, 2026, at Bill Pippen Oval, Gold Coast. England had earlier dominated the one-day leg, winning both their matches.

Sri Lanka Post 136/6 After Strong Start

After winning the toss, Chamodi Praboda chose to bat first. Openers Vimoksha Balasuriya and Sanjana Kavindi provided early momentum with a 41-run stand. Malisha Tennakoon broke the partnership in the fifth over by dismissing Balasuriya.

Umayangana Peiris joined Kavindi, and the pair added 21 runs for the second wicket before Venus Weerappuli removed Peiris in the eighth over. A key 26-run partnership between Shashini Gimhani and Nethagi Isuranjali then pushed Sri Lanka beyond the 100-run mark. Gimhani fell for 12 off 15 balls in the 15th over, with Shristi Patil claiming the wicket.

Sri Lanka managed 30 runs in the final five overs while losing two wickets, finishing on 136/6 in 20 overs. Sanjana Kavindi top-scored with 45 off 33 balls, while Nethagi Isuranjali (25 off 27), Limansa Thilakarathne (14* off 18), and Danodya Sewmini (11* off 8) added useful contributions. The innings also included 20 extras.

    England Bowling Highlights

    • Venus Weerappuli: 2/19 (4 overs)
    • Shristi Patil: 1/15 (3 overs)
    • Malisha Tennakoon: 1/25 (4 overs)
    • Bea Willis: 1/26 (4 overs)

Sri Lanka Bowlers Hold Nerve in Tight Finish

England began their chase of 137 with a 22-run opening partnership between Eliza Bristowe and Olivia Cunliffe. Chamodi Praboda struck early, dismissing Bristowe for 10 and then removing Shristi Patil in the same over to leave England at 24/2.

Prarthana Reddy joined Genevieve Jeer, and together they added 36 runs for the fourth wicket, stabilising the innings and taking the total past 50. Limansa Thilakarathne broke the stand in the 11th over by dismissing Reddy for 16.

England lost wickets regularly thereafter, slipping to 95/8 and eventually losing their remaining wickets for 33 runs. Clara Thaker’s quick 20 off 9 balls brought brief hope, but England were bowled out for 128 with four balls remaining, falling 8 runs short.

Genevieve Jeer (23 off 24) and Bea Willis (21 off 15) contributed with the bat, but it was not enough to take England over the line.

    Thilakarathne Shines with All-Round Performance

Sri Lanka’s bowling effort was led by Chamodi Praboda (3/32), Limansa Thilakarathne (3/26), and Aseni Thalagune (2/17), who maintained control throughout the innings.

Limansa Thilakarathne was named Player of the Match for her all-round display, contributing 14* with the bat and picking up three wickets.
