Netherlands Women made an impressive start to their ODI series against Scotland Women, securing a convincing 58-run victory in the opening match in Glasgow. A brilliant century from Phebe Molkenboer and a disciplined bowling display led by Silver Siegers helped the visitors take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Molkenboer and De Leede Build Match-Winning Total

After electing to bat, the Netherlands enjoyed an excellent start through openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana, who added 66 runs for the first wicket. Khurana played aggressively, striking 46 from 47 balls with nine boundaries before Abtaha Maqsood claimed Scotland’s first wicket.

Molkenboer then combined with captain Babette de Leede for a superb 138-run partnership that put the Dutch firmly in control. De Leede contributed an entertaining 69 from 74 deliveries, including nine fours and a six, before being run out in the 37th over.

Molkenboer anchored the innings throughout, bringing up a magnificent 106 from 144 balls with nine boundaries. Robine Rijke added 18, while Iris Zwilling remained unbeaten at the close as the Netherlands posted a formidable total of 270, aided by 27 extras.

    Scotland Bowlers Battle Hard

Scotland struggled to contain the Dutch batting line-up despite some disciplined spells.

Captain Abtaha Maqsood was the most economical bowler, finishing with 1/35 from her 10 overs, while Darcey Carter picked up one wicket. Niamh Robertson-Jack also kept things tight, although the Netherlands consistently built partnerships to maintain control of the innings.

Sproul Fights Lone Battle in Chase

Scotland’s reply began poorly when Darcey Carter fell early to Carlijn van Koolwijk.

Maryam Faisal and Pippa Sproul steadied the innings before Silver Siegers dismissed Faisal, and Caroline de Lange quickly removed Charlotte Nevard to leave the hosts under pressure.

Sproul continued to resist with an excellent 79 from 102 deliveries, sharing a 73-run stand with Megan McColl, who made 33. However, regular wickets prevented Scotland from mounting a sustained challenge.

Abtaha Maqsood added 19 late in the innings, but the chase ended on 212 all out in 48.5 overs.

    Dutch Bowlers Seal Comfortable Win

The Netherlands bowling attack shared the wickets throughout the innings.

Silver Siegers led the way with outstanding figures of 3/42 from her 10 overs, while Caroline de Lange claimed 2/41. Sanya Khurana, Carlijn van Koolwijk and Myrthe van den Raad each picked up a wicket, with Hannah Landheer and Robine Rijke keeping the scoring under control.

Their collective effort ensured Scotland never recovered from losing wickets at regular intervals, handing the Netherlands a comprehensive 58-run victory and an early advantage in the ODI series.
