India Women completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep against Zimbabwe in Raipur, giving Smriti Mandhana a successful start as full-time captain.
Shafali Verma led the batting with 128 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur struck an unbeaten 91 in the final match, and Nandani Sharma finished as the leading wicket-taker with six dismissals.
Despite three victories, India’s fielding, middle-order batting and wicket-taking consistency remain areas for improvement.

First T20I: India Recover From 19/4
Zimbabwe posted 114/5, with Kelis Ndhlovu scoring 42 and Sharne Mayers remaining unbeaten on 43.
India collapsed to 19/4 after Nyasha Gwanzura claimed three early wickets. Deepti Sharma (49) and debutant Niki Prasad (39*) then shared an 82-run partnership to secure a four-wicket victory with 26 balls remaining.
Second T20I: Shafali Secures Series Win
India restricted Zimbabwe to 102/8 before Shafali smashed 55 off 25 balls. The hosts reached 104/1 in fewer than nine overs, winning by nine wickets.
Shafali also received an official reprimand and one demerit point for slamming the ball into the ground after dropping a catch. She admitted the Level 1 ICC Code of Conduct offence.
Third T20I: Harmanpreet Dominates
Harmanpreet hit an unbeaten 91 off 41 deliveries, including ten fours and five sixes. Shafali added 69 as India reached 216/7, their joint-third-highest women’s T20I total.
Zimbabwe finished on 124/7 despite Mayers’ 60 and Beloved Biza’s 44. India won by 92 runs to complete the sweep.
Shafali Verma Leads India’s Batting
Shafali finished as the Player of the Series after scoring 128 runs at a strike rate of 200.00, including two half-centuries. She struck 13 fours and nine sixes across three innings.
Her strong form extended a productive 2026 campaign, during which she accumulated 991 runs in 27 innings at a strike rate of 166.83.
Harmanpreet scored 92 runs across two innings, with her unbeaten 91 providing the series’ highest individual score.
For Zimbabwe, Mayers led the batting with 112 runs at an average of 56.00.
Niki Prasad and Nandani Sharma Impress
Prasad made an immediate impact on her international debut, scoring an unbeaten 39 in the opening match when India were struggling at 19/4. She also took three wickets across the remaining two games and contributed with sharp catching and athletic fielding.
Nandani finished as the series’ leading wicket-taker with six wickets at an economy rate of 4.18, including best figures of 3/18.
Zimbabwe’s Biza claimed five wickets, while Gwanzura took four.
Mandhana’s Captaincy: Positive Start, Missed Opportunities
Mandhana began her full-time captaincy with three consecutive wins, often using attacking field placements during the powerplay.
However, India did not use every available squad option. Minnu Mani and Jintimani Kalita remained on the sidelines throughout the series despite their performances against Australia A.
With the series decided after two matches, the final T20I offered an opportunity to assess additional players.
Fielding and Middle-Order Batting Need Attention
India’s fielding was inconsistent despite the comfortable series result. Shafali dropped catches in the second and third matches, while Kranti Gaud also missed an opportunity. Misfields and unnecessary overthrows added to the concerns.
The middle order also produced mixed returns.
Anushka Sharma struggled in her first two appearances before scoring 28 off 20 balls as an opener in the final match.
Richa Ghosh’s form remains another concern. Across 24 WT20I innings in 2026, she averaged 21.25 at a strike rate of 145.92, passing 20 only six times.
India’s bowling attack also struggled to dismiss Zimbabwe’s entire batting line-up in any match.
Arundhati Reddy took two wickets at an economy rate of 8.11, while Deepti Sharma claimed two at 4.81.
What’s Next for India Women?
India’s clean sweep provided an encouraging start to Mandhana’s captaincy, with Shafali, Harmanpreet, Nandani and Prasad delivering important contributions.
However, better catching, stronger middle-order contributions and more consistent wicket-taking will be important against tougher opposition.
India’s next assignment is a three-match women’s ODI series against Zimbabwe, beginning October 23 in Vadodara, before their upcoming all-format tour of South Africa.
