India women’s cricketer S Meghana has announced her retirement from all formats of cricket at the age of 30, bringing an end to a career that included 20 international appearances, a Commonwealth Games silver medal and a Women’s Premier League (WPL) title.

The top-order batter last represented India in October 2022 and made her final competitive appearance during the 2025 WPL season.

In an emotional retirement message shared on social media, Meghana thanked the people and organisations that supported her career and confirmed her intention to remain involved in cricket through mentoring.

S Meghana Shares Emotional Retirement Message

Meghana announced her decision with a social media post titled “Thank You BCCI”, accompanied by a photograph of herself batting in India’s blue jersey. She also included her international cap numbers, 135 in ODIs and 53 in T20Is.

Reflecting on her journey, Meghana wrote:

“Stepping onto the field for the very first time with a bat in hand to wearing a jersey on the world stage has been nothing short of a dream come true. As I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket as a player, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. The field has been my second home, teaching me resilience, humility, and giving me memories and friendships that I will carry for a lifetime.”

She expressed appreciation to her family, coaches, teammates, support staff and supporters.

Meghana also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), RSPB and her former WPL franchises, Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

    S Meghana’s International Cricket Career

Meghana made her international debut on November 20, 2016, in a women’s T20I against West Indies in Vijayawada. She scored 17 off 16 balls in a match India lost by 31 runs.

The Andhra Pradesh batter went on to represent India in 17 T20Is and three ODIs.

Her ODI debut came in February 2022 against New Zealand in Queenstown, where she scored four runs from 14 deliveries. Although her first appearance was modest, Meghana improved significantly in the following two matches.

She scored 49 off 50 balls and then struck 61 from just 41 deliveries, demonstrating her attacking ability in the 50-over format.

However, those three matches remained her only ODI appearances.

Commonwealth Games Silver Medal and WPL Title

Meghana was part of India’s squad that won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She subsequently featured in three seasons of the Women’s Premier League.

The batter joined Gujarat Giants for the inaugural WPL season in 2023 before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024. She was part of the RCB squad that won the franchise’s first WPL title that year.

Meghana remained with Bengaluru for the 2025 season, which proved to be her final campaign in the competition.

Across her WPL career, she played 15 matches and scored 302 runs in 14 innings.

Her performances contributed to a WPL career spanning two franchises, including a championship-winning season with RCB.

Meghana Plans to Mentor the Next Generation

Although Meghana has retired as a player, she made clear that she intends to remain connected to cricket. In her farewell message, she outlined plans to support young players and contribute to the development of the women’s game.

“While my cricket days come to an end, my bond with cricket will never break,” she wrote. “I will always stay deeply connected to the game and intend to dedicate my life to giving back to the sport, mentoring the next generation, and serving the game that gave me everything.”

Meghana retires with 372 international runs, a Commonwealth Games silver medal and a WPL championship to her name.

Her next chapter will focus on giving back to the sport and helping future generations of women cricketers pursue their ambitions.
