India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has called for more opportunities in the longest format after leading her team in the historic first ever Women’s Test at Lord’s. The landmark match in July 2026 marked a major moment for women’s cricket, coming 142 years after Lord’s hosted its first men’s Test and 50 years after women first played an ODI at the iconic venue.

For Harmanpreet and her teammates, the occasion was much more than another international fixture. It fulfilled a lifelong dream while also highlighting the need for a stronger calendar for women’s red ball cricket. Her comments have once again brought the conversation around Harmanpreet Kaur Women’s Test cricket into focus.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Emotional Lord’s Test Reaction

Speaking before the match, Harmanpreet shared her excitement about playing a Test at the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground. She described the opportunity as a dream come true for the entire Indian squad and admitted that wearing the traditional white kit made the experience even more special.

“Maybe it is late, but not too late,” Harmanpreet said.

“As a kid, we always dream about playing Test matches, and playing at Lord’s is one of those dreams. I’m so happy that we got this opportunity. We may not be that used to playing Test matches, but we enjoy them so much. Even during the photoshoot, everybody was so excited wearing the white kit.”

The Harmanpreet Kaur Lord’s test reaction reflected both pride and hope as she urged cricket administrators to schedule more multi-day matches for women.

A Fresh Start After World Cup Disappointment

The Lord’s Test came shortly after India’s early exit from the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Defeats against South Africa and Australia ended India’s campaign before the semi-finals, making the historic Test an important opportunity to rebuild confidence.

Harmanpreet believed that returning to the traditional format would help the players regain their rhythm and move on from the disappointment. The Indian captain viewed the occasion as the perfect chance to begin a fresh chapter.

Harmanpreet Calls for More Women’s Tests

One of the biggest talking points from the Lord’s Test was Harmanpreet’s appeal for more matches in the format. Despite playing international cricket for 17 years and featuring in more than 370 matches, this was only the eighth Test of her career.

She said players genuinely want to play more Test cricket but have very few opportunities to do so. Harmanpreet also pointed out that adjusting from regular T20 cricket to the patience required in Test matches is not easy when teams rarely play the format.

She acknowledged that scheduling decisions are in the hands of cricket’s governing bodies but expressed confidence that organizations like the BCCI and ECB are working to grow the women’s game.

    Historic Milestones for India

The opening day at Lord’s was memorable for several reasons. Harmanpreet scored a composed 58 from 121 balls and became only the third Indian woman to cross 9,000 international runs, joining legends Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana.

Mandhana also created history by becoming the youngest woman to play 300 international matches, while her elegant knock of 83 laid a strong platform for India.

With the ball, Kranti Gaud delivered a stunning performance by taking a historic five-wicket haul as England were dismissed for just 170.

The memorable Test not only celebrated the growth of women’s cricket but also strengthened Harmanpreet Kaur’s call for more regular red ball opportunities, a move that could shape the future of the women’s game.
