Lancashire Women opened their ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 campaign with a dominant 149-run victory over Durham Women at Chester-le-Street, delivering a comprehensive all-round performance in the tournament’s opening fixture.

After choosing to bat, Lancashire built their innings steadily rather than explosively. Eve Jones provided early stability with a composed 82 off 106 balls, anchoring the innings with controlled stroke play. Although Emma Lamb contributed just 6 from 10 deliveries, Jones ensured momentum was maintained through smart rotation and timely boundaries. The innings shifted gears significantly once Gaby Lewis arrived at the crease.

Lewis produced a commanding knock of 131 from 116 balls, striking 16 boundaries and taking control of the innings. Her partnership with Jones proved pivotal, as the pair added a substantial second-wicket stand to set up a strong platform. Even after Jones was dismissed at 211/2, Lewis continued to dominate, combining effectively with Seren Smale, who remained unbeaten on 31 off 35 balls. Additional contributions from Eleanor Threlkeld (15) and Ailsa Lister (5), along with late runs, ensured Lancashire carried momentum through the latter stages. Despite losing a few quick wickets, they finished on 303/8 in 48 overs, with 29 extras boosting the total.

    Durham Bowlers Show Resistance

Durham’s bowling effort featured moments of control but lacked consistency. Sophia Turner and Katherine Fraser led the attack with three wickets each, with Fraser particularly economical, conceding just 32 runs from her 7 overs. Phoebe Turner and Mady Villiers also picked up a wicket apiece, but the bowlers struggled to contain Lewis, whose innings proved decisive.

    Early Wickets Dent Chase

In pursuit of 304, Durham struggled to gain momentum from the outset. Early strikes from Tara Norris and Sophie Ecclestone reduced them to 20/1 and then 49/2. Hollie Armitage attempted to steady the innings with 23, but regular wickets prevented any recovery.

Emily Windsor stood out with a determined 46 off 61 balls, while Bess Heath added 28. However, the absence of sustained partnerships meant Durham could not mount a serious challenge.

    Lancashire Bowlers Seal the Win

Lancashire’s bowling unit maintained control throughout the chase. Emma Lamb led the effort with 4 for 29 in 8 overs, breaking through the middle order. Sophie Ecclestone applied pressure with a tight spell of 2 for 10 from 8 overs, while Tara Norris and Grace Potts chipped in with one wicket each.

Durham were eventually bowled out for 154 in 40 overs, having been unable to recover from early setbacks.

    Key Highlights

    • Lancashire Women posted 303/8 in 48 overs
    • Gaby Lewis scored 131 off 116 balls
    • Eve Jones added 82 at the top
    • Emma Lamb took 4/29 with the ball
    • Durham Women were bowled out for 154

Lancashire’s commanding display with both bat and ball sets a strong early benchmark in the competition, with standout performances from Lewis and Lamb leading the way.
