Warwickshire Women produced a disciplined all-round display to secure a five-wicket victory over Essex Women in their ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 clash at Chelmsford. On a surface that offered assistance to the bowlers, Warwickshire’s control with the ball set up a composed chase after dismissing Essex for 157.

    Essex Struggle to Build Momentum

Essex Women began cautiously but suffered an early blow when Cordelia Griffith was trapped lbw by Em Arlott for 6, leaving them at 1/36 in 9.4 overs. That breakthrough set the tone for Warwickshire’s consistent bowling effort.

Grace Scrivens held the innings together with a patient 59 off 88 balls, striking six boundaries. However, support around her was limited. Alice Macleod managed just 7 before departing at 2/55, while Amara Carr fell for 1 soon after, with Georgia Davis striking to leave Essex at 3/67.

Joanne Gardner briefly lifted the scoring rate with a brisk 24 off 24 balls, including a boundary and two sixes, adding a useful partnership with Scrivens. But her dismissal at 4/100 halted Essex’s progress once again.

The innings then unraveled quickly, with Florence Miller (0), Kate Coppack (5), and Sophie Munro (0) falling in quick succession as Essex slipped from 4/100 to 8/132. Sophia Smale contributed an unbeaten 28 off 42 balls, while Abtaha Maqsood added 9, but Essex were eventually bowled out for 157 in 39.4 overs, aided by 18 extras.

    Warwickshire Bowlers Deliver Clinical Effort

Warwickshire’s bowling unit operated with discipline throughout:

    • Em Arlott: 2/14 (5 overs)
    • Georgia Davis: 2/41 (10 overs)
    • Hannah Baker: 2/38 (8 overs)
    • Charis Pavely: 2/10 (3.4 overs)

Issy Wong and Amu Surenkumar also picked up a wicket each, ensuring pressure was maintained across all phases of the innings.

    Calm Chase Secures Victory

In response, Warwickshire Women approached the chase with composure. An early setback saw Amu Surenkumar dismissed for 3 at 1/8, but Davina Perrin steadied the innings with a composed 43 off 59 balls.

She added 66 runs with Meg Austin (17) before Austin’s dismissal at 2/66. Perrin soon followed at 3/66, briefly offering Essex a chance to fight back.

However, captain Katie George anchored the chase with an unbeaten 42 off 71 balls. She found crucial support from Charis Pavely, who contributed 26, as the pair guided Warwickshire through the middle phase.

Despite the loss of Natasha Wraith for 4 and Pavely’s run-out at 4/118, the target never looked out of reach. Em Arlott applied the finishing touch with an unbeaten 18, as Warwickshire reached 160/5 in 40.4 overs to seal victory with 56 balls remaining.

    Essex Effort Falls Short

Essex’s bowlers had their moments, with Eva Gray (1/33), Kate Coppack (1/26), Sophia Smale (1/32), and Joanne Gardner (1/13) each picking up a wicket. However, the modest total meant they were unable to build sustained pressure on Warwickshire’s batters.
