New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for March, edging out fellow nominees Ayabonga Khaka and Beth Mooney. The accolade, presented by the International Cricket Council, recognises Kerr’s exceptional all-round displays across formats during a successful home season for New Zealand, where she played a pivotal role in series victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa. Her contributions were particularly notable as she assumed white-ball captaincy duties, stepping in for Sophie Devine.

Kerr made an immediate impression in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, producing one of the most dominant bowling efforts in recent times. She collected 16 wickets in just three matches, including a career-best 7/34—now the best bowling figures recorded by a New Zealand woman in ODIs. Her control through the middle overs and ability to take wickets at regular intervals proved decisive.

Alongside her bowling, Kerr also delivered with the bat in the same series, scoring 140 runs at an average of 46.67. Her contributions placed her among the leading run-scorers and reinforced her value as a complete all-rounder during the campaign.

The 25-year-old carried that form into the T20I series against South Africa, where New Zealand secured a 4-1 win. Kerr accumulated 276 runs across five matches, playing a central role in the side’s batting success. She also extended an impressive streak, registering 11 consecutive scores of 30 or more in T20 internationals.

Her performances across both formats saw her rise to the No.1 spot in the ICC Women’s T20I all-rounder rankings, underlining her standing as one of the leading players in the modern game. Despite her individual achievements, Kerr emphasised the team’s contribution to New Zealand’s success. “It’s been a special month for the White Ferns,” Kerr said. “It’s always nice to be able to contribute to wins for your country but seeing the way the whole team has played, the selflessness and the belief is what has been the highlight for me this past month.”

    Leadership Impact and Consistency

Kerr’s transition into a leadership role has emerged as a significant aspect of her recent performances. Taking on captaincy responsibilities appears to have enhanced her influence, with the all-rounder consistently delivering in key moments with both bat and ball. Her ability to combine leadership with high-level performance has been central to New Zealand’s strong run.

With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup set to begin in England on June 12, Kerr’s form will be crucial as New Zealand prepare to defend their title. Her consistency, versatility, and composure position her as a key figure heading into the tournament.

Kerr’s Player of the Month recognition caps a standout period in which she outperformed strong contenders and further established herself among the elite all-rounders in international cricket.
