Tasmania Tigers have secured the services of England allrounder Alice Davidson-Richards as their overseas signing for the upcoming domestic season, with the seam-bowling allrounder set to replace Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce in the squad.

Bryce, who played a key role for Tasmania in recent seasons, was not retained due to availability concerns arising from her increasing international commitments with Scotland. Her absence created an opportunity for the Tigers to bring in Davidson-Richards, an experienced player across all formats.

    Experienced Allrounder Adds Balance

Davidson-Richards, 31, has represented England in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, and is known for her versatility with both bat and ball. She strengthens Tasmania’s middle order while also providing a reliable medium-pace option, along with valuable leadership experience in a squad undergoing changes ahead of the new season.

Her most notable international performance came on Test debut against South Africa in 2022, where she scored 107 from 194 balls at Taunton. In the same match, she also contributed with the ball, returning figures of 1/43.

    International and Domestic Record

In ODI cricket, Davidson-Richards has played 10 matches, scoring 169 runs at an average of 33.80, including two half-centuries with a highest score of 53. She has also taken seven wickets at an average of 21.42, with best figures of 3/35.

Her T20I career includes eight matches and four wickets, with best figures of 3/5. While her international appearances have been limited, she has been a consistent performer in England’s domestic competitions, including the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

    Replacement for Bryce

Davidson-Richards’ arrival follows the departure of Kathryn Bryce, whose all-round contributions had been central to Tasmania’s setup. Bryce has since focused on her role with Scotland, where she has become one of the leading players in associate women’s cricket.

With Scotland preparing for a busy international calendar, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, her availability for a full domestic season was no longer feasible.

Squad Refresh Ahead of New Season

The signing forms part of a wider squad overhaul as Tasmania prepare for the upcoming Women’s National Cricket League and domestic T20 competitions. The club has handed full-time contracts to several players, including Kate Pelle, Ella Hayward, Alice Davidson-Richards and Caity Mair, while Mia Barwick has joined as a rookie.

Tasmania’s latest additions underline their aim to strengthen depth and flexibility after an inconsistent previous campaign, with Davidson-Richards expected to play a key role throughout the season.
