Surrey Women and Hampshire Women played out a dramatic tie in the Women’s T20 Vitality Blast 2026 at Southampton, with both sides finishing on 121 after a closely fought contest that went down to the final delivery.
Surrey Post Competitive Total
Batting first, Surrey Women faced an early setback when captain Bryony Smith was dismissed for 4 at 12. However, Alice Davidson-Richards and Laura Harris steadied the innings with a 39-run stand for the second wicket.
Harris provided momentum with a quickfire 25 from 12 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six before Amanda-Jade Wellington broke the partnership. Davidson-Richards continued to anchor the innings and added 10 runs with Kira Chathli, who made 4, as Surrey reached 61/3.
Hampshire tightened their grip in the middle overs, with Wellington removing Jemima Spence for 1 and Naomi Dattani dismissing Paige Scholfield for 4. Despite the pressure, Davidson-Richards remained key, scoring 40 from 38 balls, including four fours and a six, before being run out.
Alice Monaghan contributed 21 from 21 balls in a 22-run stand with Davidson-Richards, helping Surrey recover to 87/6. The lower order added small contributions, but multiple run-outs in the closing stages restricted Surrey to 121 in their 20 overs.
Wellington led Hampshire’s bowling effort with 3/25, while Bex Tyson picked up 2/34 and Dattani returned 1/21. Fielding also played a major role, with several run-outs halting Surrey’s progress.
Hampshire Fall Just Short in Chase
Chasing 122, Hampshire Women struggled early, losing Ella McCaughan for 1 at 6/1. Maia Bouchier made 10 before falling at 20/2, and Francesca Sweet’s dismissal for 1 left them at 22/3.
Georgia Adams attempted to stabilise the innings, scoring 30 from 32 balls. She shared a brief partnership with Naomi Dattani, who added 10 before being run out. When Adams fell at 73/5, Surrey gained the upper hand.
Harman Keeps Hampshire in the Game
Nancy Harman then shifted the momentum with an aggressive 43 from 26 balls, including three fours and a six. She added 42 runs with Rhianna Southby, who contributed a composed 17 from 14 balls, bringing Hampshire close to the target.
Harman’s dismissal at 115/6 set up a tense finish, with Hampshire needing seven runs in the final over.
Dramatic Finish Ends in Tie
The match reached its climax in the final over. Southby was run out for 17 on the second-last ball, and Amanda-Jade Wellington managed just 1 before another run-out.
With one run required from the last delivery, Abi Norgrove could not score, leaving Hampshire on 121/8 and sealing a thrilling tie.
Surrey Bowlers Share the Work
Surrey’s bowling effort was built on contributions across the attack. Ryana MacDonald-Gay returned 2/20, while Alice Monaghan, Kalea Moore and Danielle Gregory picked up one wicket each.
Their disciplined bowling, combined with three crucial run-outs, ensured Surrey matched Hampshire’s total in a closely contested encounter.
