Thailand Women produced a commanding all-round display to defeat Malaysia Women by nine wickets in the final of the Asian Games Women’s T20I Qualifier 2026. A clinical bowling effort, led by Player of the Match Suleeporn Laomi, set up a straightforward chase, which captain Natthakan Chantham completed with an unbeaten knock.
Malaysia struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Thailand attack. Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Winifred Duraisingam added 12 for the opening wicket before Thipatcha Putthawong dismissed Ainna for 4. Elsa Hunter followed soon after for 2, leaving Malaysia at 14/2.
The situation worsened when captain Mas Elysa was run out for 6, reducing the side to 26/3. Winifred and Mahirah Izzati Ismail attempted to stabilise the innings with a 17-run stand, but Winifred was run out for 8, leaving Malaysia at 33/4 in the ninth over.
Malaysia Collapse Under Pressure
Mahirah tried to anchor the innings but found little support. A brief stand with Dhanusri Muhunan added just one run before another wicket fell. Mahirah and Wan Julia then put together 15 runs, but Wan Julia’s dismissal for 1 triggered another collapse.
At 49/7, Malaysia’s innings was in disarray. Mahirah top-scored with 18 from 26 balls, including the only boundary from the middle order, before becoming the ninth wicket to fall at 53. Malaysia were eventually bowled out for 54 in 16.4 overs, with seven extras contributing to the total.
Suleeporn Laomi led the bowling effort with figures of 4/13 in 3.4 overs, dismantling the lower order. Thipatcha Putthawong set the tone with 2/6, while Sunida Chaturongrattana (1/8) and Onnicha Kamchomphu (1/10) provided strong support. Phannita Maya also maintained control despite going wicketless.
Chantham Guides Comfortable Chase
Chasing 55, Thailand lost Aphisara Suwanchonrathi early for 2, caught off Ainna Hamizah Hashim with the score at 11/1. From there, Natthakan Chantham took charge of the innings.
The captain played a composed unbeaten knock of 41 from 30 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six. She was supported by Nannapat Koncharoenkai, who remained not out on 11 from 23 deliveries.
Their unbroken 45-run partnership ensured Thailand reached 56/1 in 10.4 overs, sealing victory with ease and underlining their dominance throughout the match.
Malaysia’s bowlers had limited opportunities to apply pressure, with Ainna Hamizah Hashim the only wicket-taker, finishing with 1/9. Nur Dania Syuhada conceded 11 runs in three overs, while Aisya Eleesa and Winifred Duraisingam also bowled their spells.
