Sterre Kalis reached the milestone of 2,000 international runs as Netherlands Women secured an eight-run victory over Bangladesh Women in the third match of the Scotland Women’s T20I Tri-Series in Edinburgh.
The 26-year-old entered the game needing just one run to reach the landmark and contributed 28 off 27 balls at No. 3, hitting four boundaries as Netherlands posted 162/5 in their 20 overs before successfully defending the total.
Kalis Anchors Netherlands Innings
Kalis’ innings was a measured contribution that helped stabilise the Dutch top order. While it was not a dominant knock, her ability to rotate strike and find boundaries at key moments ensured Netherlands reached a competitive score.
She brought up the milestone during her innings, underlining her consistency in international cricket since making her T20I debut on July 7, 2018 against the United Arab Emirates in Utrecht.
Before this match, Kalis had accumulated 1,921 T20I runs in 63 innings, maintaining a strike rate of 104.23 and an average of 36.24, including 11 half-centuries and one century.
A Career Built on Consistency
Kalis made an immediate impact after her debut in 2018, establishing herself as a key figure in the Netherlands’ batting lineup. One of her standout performances remains her 126 off 76 balls against Germany on June 27, 2019 at La Manga Club Top Ground, where she struck 10 fours and five sixes.
That innings contributed to Netherlands posting 196/3 and winning by 131 runs, while also helping Kalis become the fourth-fastest player to reach 1,000 T20I runs.
She later added ODI experience, making her debut on November 20, 2022 against Thailand in Chiangmai. In five ODI innings, she has scored 106 runs, with a highest score of 54 in a close chase of 177 on November 22, 2022.
Netherlands Hold Nerve in Defence
After setting 162/5, Netherlands produced a disciplined bowling and fielding effort to restrict Bangladesh and secure a narrow eight-run win.
Kalis’ contribution proved significant in a closely contested match, as her innings provided the stability needed for the team to post a defendable total.
Key Player Ahead of World Cup
Reaching 2,000 international runs at the age of 26 highlights Kalis’ consistency and longevity at the international level. Her record reflects a blend of attacking intent and the ability to anchor innings when required.
As Netherlands prepare for their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign under captain Babette de Leede, Kalis is expected to play a crucial role. The team will begin their tournament against Bangladesh on June 14, 2026 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Her ability to adapt to different match situations, whether accelerating in the powerplay or guiding the middle overs, makes her a central figure in the Netherlands’ batting lineup.
