Somerset Women produced a strong all-round display to register a 39-run victory over Yorkshire Women in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026 at Taunton. After setting a competitive total, Somerset’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase to secure a comprehensive win.
Luff Leads the Batting Effort
Batting first after Yorkshire opted to bowl, Somerset made a steady start with Rebecca Odgers setting the tone. She scored 30 off 25 balls, including five boundaries, and shared a 68-run opening partnership with Sophie Luff before being dismissed lbw by Beth Langston in the eighth over.
Following the early breakthrough, captain Sophie Luff took charge of the innings. She played a commanding knock of 57 from 35 deliveries, striking eight fours and a six. Alongside Anika Learoyd, who contributed 35 off 28 balls, Luff added a crucial 42-run stand for the second wicket to keep the scoreboard moving.
Even after the departure of set batters, Somerset maintained momentum in the closing stages. Niamh Holland provided a composed finish, remaining unbeaten on 41 from 27 balls, with five boundaries. Late contributions ensured Somerset posted 177/5 from their 20 overs.
Yorkshire’s bowling effort was led by Beth Langston, who returned 1/23, while Maddie Ward and Jess Jonassen picked up one wicket each.
Somerset Bowlers Control the Chase
Chasing 178, Yorkshire suffered an early setback when Erin Thomas was dismissed for a duck by Alex Griffiths in the opening over. Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill made 11, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Jess Jonassen briefly counterattacked with 17 from 9 balls before being dismissed, leaving Yorkshire struggling at 29/3. The innings was steadied by Sterre Kalis, who top-scored with 51 off 35 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries.
Kalis and Maddie Ward, who added 22 from 16 balls, put together a useful partnership to keep Yorkshire in the contest. However, Somerset regained control when Lola Harris removed both batters in quick succession, including Kalis at 104/5.
Harris Seals the Result
After losing key wickets, Yorkshire were unable to recover. Beth Langston remained unbeaten on 17, but the lower order failed to build partnerships as the side finished on 138/9.
Somerset’s bowling unit worked effectively as a group, with Lola Harris leading the effort with figures of 3/17. Olivia Barnes delivered a tight spell of 1/19, while Alex Griffiths, Erin Vukusic, Niamh Holland and Chloe Skelton also contributed with wickets.
The disciplined bowling display ensured Somerset secured a comfortable 39-run win.
