Rwanda Women secured a narrow victory over South Africa Women U19 in a tightly contested fixture of the Nigeria Women’s T20I Invitational, with the result ultimately determined by the DLS method in a rain-affected 14-over-a-side encounter. The match featured a series of momentum shifts, with both teams producing key partnerships and impactful spells throughout the contest.

Rwanda began their innings with a measured approach, anchored by Fanny Utagushimaninde at the top. She compiled a patient 24 from 25 deliveries, striking three boundaries, and put together the first significant stand alongside Giselle Ishimwe. Ishimwe contributed a quick 6 off 3 balls, setting an early tempo before departing with the score at 16/1 in 1.3 overs. Captain Marie Bimenyimana was unable to build on the start, managing only 1 run as Rwanda slipped to 17/2 in 2.2 overs.

Stability returned through a vital middle-order stand between Utagushimaninde and Clarisse Uwase. Uwase produced a composed 26 from 21 balls, including three boundaries, rotating the strike effectively to keep the scoreboard moving. Their partnership carried the total to 47/3 in 7.2 overs when Utagushimaninde was dismissed. Uwase then combined with Merveille Uwase, who added momentum with a brisk 17 off 10 deliveries, striking three fours, before wickets began to tumble in quick succession.

Henriette Ishimwe struggled to find fluency, scoring 1 from 4 balls, while Shakila Niyomuhhoza chipped in with a useful 13 from 9 deliveries to maintain the run rate late in the innings. Alice Ikuze and Flora Irakoze remained unbeaten on 6 (7) and 1 (1) respectively, guiding Rwanda to a total of 101/7 in their allotted 14 overs, with extras adding 6 runs.

South Africa Women U19 shared the bowling responsibilities effectively. Miya Lalor and Ashleigh van Wyk each claimed 2 wickets, conceding 25 and 22 runs respectively across their 3-over spells. Danielle Boshoff also impressed with figures of 2 for 19 in 2.5 overs, while Jeze Campher took 1 wicket. Cayleigh Wanckel delivered an economical spell, finishing with 0 for 10 from her 2 overs.

In reply, South Africa Women U19 made a steady start but lost Danielle Boshoff early for 7, leaving the score at 29/1 in 4.1 overs. Ashley Barnard then played an attacking innings of 21 from 15 balls, including two boundaries, and formed a useful partnership with Jeze Campher. Barnard’s dismissal at 45/2 in 6.1 overs shifted the momentum again, and Campher soon followed after contributing 13 from 14 balls, with the score moving to 53/3 in 7.6 overs.

Captain Mieke van Voorst then anchored the chase with a composed and influential unbeaten 34 from 27 deliveries, striking two fours and two sixes. She added a steady partnership with Ashleigh van Wyk, who scored 10 from 11 balls before falling at 92/4 in 12.5 overs. Miya Lalor remained not out on 3 as South Africa Women U19 finished on 100/4 in 14 overs, narrowly missing the revised DLS target.

Rwanda’s bowling unit delivered disciplined spells in the closing stages. Alice Ikuze led the attack with figures of 2 for 21 from her 3 overs, while Marie Bimenyimana and Rosine Irera picked up one wicket each, conceding 16 and 17 runs respectively. Henriette Ishimwe and Sylvia Usabyimana maintained tight lines despite remaining wicketless, helping Rwanda hold their advantage at crucial moments.
