Thailand Women delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Malaysia Women by seven wickets in the Asian Games Women’s Qualifier 2026 match in Kuala Lumpur. After a disciplined bowling display led by Phannita Maya, Thailand chased down the target with 45 balls remaining.
Malaysia entered the contest looking to gain momentum through their experienced top order, but Thailand’s bowlers kept firm control from the start and never allowed partnerships to develop for long.
Malaysia Women’s innings was disrupted almost immediately. Ainna Hamizah Hashim failed to score and was dismissed for a six-ball duck by Phannita Maya in the opening over. Winifred Duraisingam also struggled for rhythm and made only one run before Maya trapped her lbw, leaving Malaysia 2/5 in the third over.
Thailand’s new-ball attack created early pressure with accurate line and length, forcing Malaysia into a defensive position.
Elsa Hunter briefly gave the innings some momentum with a quick 12 from nine balls, including two boundaries. She added 11 runs with Mas Elysa before Maya struck again in the fifth over, removing Elsa and reducing Malaysia to 16/3.
From that stage, Malaysia captain Mas Elysa tried to rebuild the innings with Mahirah Izzati Ismail. The pair produced Malaysia’s best stand of the match, adding 40 runs for the fourth wicket.
Elysa rotated the strike well, while Mahirah made a patient 18 from 34 deliveries with two boundaries. Their partnership gave Malaysia some stability after the early collapse, but Thailand broke through again just as the innings looked ready to recover.
Onnicha Kamchomphu dismissed Mahirah at 56/4 in the 16th over, starting another wobble in the middle order. Nur Dania Syuhada was then trapped lbw for a duck by Sunida Chaturongrattana, while Nur Arianna Natsya fell for two after Natthakan Chantham completed a sharp catch off Kamchomphu.
Iridina Beh Nabil also failed to contribute, becoming Maya’s fourth wicket. Mas Elysa, however, fought through to the end, finishing unbeaten on 45 from 52 balls with four boundaries as Malaysia Women closed on 82/7 from 20 overs.
Phannita Maya Leads Thailand’s Bowling Effort
Thailand Women’s bowlers produced a complete team performance in a low-scoring game. Maya was the clear standout and was named Player of the Match after taking 4/14 from her four overs. She damaged Malaysia’s top order and kept pressure on throughout her spell.
Kamchomphu gave strong support with 2/15 from four overs, while Chaturongrattana added an economical 1/12. Thipatcha Putthawong and Suleeporn Laomi also kept things tight, conceding only 24 and 17 runs respectively as Malaysia were prevented from accelerating.
Thailand Chase With Confidence
Chasing 83, Thailand Women approached the target positively. Openers Natthakan Chantham and Aphisara Suwanchonrathi immediately put Malaysia’s bowlers under pressure with attacking strokeplay.
The pair added a fluent 58-run opening partnership that effectively settled the contest. Natthakan was the more aggressive of the two, hitting 38 from just 25 balls at a strike rate of 152, including six boundaries. Her fast start removed any chance of scoreboard pressure and moved Thailand firmly ahead.
Malaysia finally broke through in the eighth over when Ainna Hamizah Hashim dismissed Natthakan at 58/1. Aphisara then made a composed 21 from 28 balls and added 11 runs with Nannapat Koncharoenkai before she was caught by Mas Elysa off Ainna’s bowling.
Naruemol Chaiwai scored seven before being run out late in the innings, but Thailand were already well in control. Nannapat stayed unbeaten on 15 from 16 balls and guided the chase with Chanida Sutthiruang as Thailand Women reached 85/3 in 12.3 overs.
Malaysia’s bowlers had little room to defend such a small total, although Ainna Hamizah Hashim impressed with 2/12 from three overs. Winifred Duraisingam also showed control, giving away only 20 runs in 3.3 overs, while Nur Dania Syuhada kept things relatively tidy. However, the lack of runs on the board made it difficult to contain Thailand’s aggressive batting lineup.
With this convincing win, Thailand Women secured their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Games Women’s Qualifier 2026. Their sharp bowling, energetic fielding, and confident batting showed why they remain one of the strongest emerging sides in women’s T20 cricket.
