The 7th match of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 at The Oval on April 15 delivered a contest full of momentum shifts, as Surrey Women secured a three-wicket victory over Yorkshire Women under the D/L method in a fast-moving chase.

The game saw phases of control change hands repeatedly, with key partnerships, timely breakthroughs, and impactful spells shaping the outcome throughout.

    Yorkshire rebuild after early setback

Yorkshire Women began cautiously but suffered an early blow when Georgie Boyce was dismissed for 3, leaving them at 1-21 in 3.4 overs. Lauren Winfield-Hill then steadied the innings, building a partnership with Jess Jonassen before the latter fell for 13 (29), with the score at 2-57 in 11.5 overs.

The innings regained structure when Sterre Kalis joined Winfield-Hill, and the pair combined effectively to rebuild. Winfield-Hill led the effort with a composed 60 off 70 balls, including eight boundaries, before departing at 3-131 in 26.1 overs.

Kalis contributed 38 (50), ensuring continuity through the middle overs, while Maddie Ward (20 off 31) and Ami Campbell (18 off 21) added useful runs. However, regular wickets halted Yorkshire’s progress, with Erin Thomas (7), Beth Langston (4), and others unable to push on. From a stable 4-132, the innings slipped to 7-185 before ending at 185 in 40.1 overs.

    Surrey bowlers keep pressure on

Surrey’s bowling performance was collective, with Kalea Moore leading the way with 3 for 22 from her 8 overs. Tilly Corteen-Coleman matched that impact with 3 for 27, while Maitlan Brown added 2 for 40.

Priyanaz Chatterji and Alice Davidson-Richards also picked up a wicket each, ensuring Yorkshire were unable to build sustained momentum.

    Scholfield’s counterattack defines chase

Chasing a revised target of 193, Surrey Women made an unsteady start as Bryony Smith fell for 8 at 1-27 in 2.2 overs. Alice Monaghan and Paige Scholfield then put together a partnership to stabilise the innings, but Monaghan’s dismissal for 22 (28) left Surrey at 2-119 in 11.4 overs.

The turning point came through Paige Scholfield’s explosive innings of 89 from just 42 balls. She struck 17 fours and two sixes, taking control of the chase and putting Yorkshire’s bowling under sustained pressure.

Her dismissal at 3-139 in 14.2 overs opened a brief opportunity for Yorkshire, who responded with quick wickets, including Kira Chathli (0) and Jemima Spence (13), reducing Surrey to 5-153.

    Davidson-Richards finishes the job

Alice Davidson-Richards then held the innings together with a composed unbeaten 35 off 26 balls. She received support from Kalea Moore (16 off 17) and later Priyanaz Chatterji (2*), guiding Surrey to 193/7 in 23.3 overs.

For Yorkshire, Maddie Ward was the standout bowler with 3 for 38 in 5 overs, while Beth Langston claimed two wickets. Jess Jonassen and Rachel Slater took one each, but the attack struggled to contain Scholfield’s aggressive approach during the middle phase.

    Brief Scores

    • Yorkshire Women 185 in 40.1 overs (Winfield-Hill 60, Kalis 38; Moore 3-22, Corteen-Coleman 3-27)
    • Surrey Women 193/7 in 23.3 overs (Scholfield 89, Davidson-Richards 35*; Ward 3-38)
    • Surrey Women won by 3 wickets (D/L method)
