Warwickshire secured their fourth win of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup season with a three-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Scarborough, despite a brilliant all-round display from Jess Jonassen.
Yorkshire posted 238 all out, built largely around Jonassen’s outstanding 110, before Warwickshire reached 239 for 7 with 16 balls to spare. Chloe Brewer’s composed 56 proved decisive in the chase, helping the visitors overcome a wobble and close out the match.
Jonassen dominated Yorkshire’s innings and was involved in the two major partnerships that shaped their total. She added 89 for the second wicket with Georgie Boyce and later put on 79 for the fifth wicket with Ines Blackwell.
Yorkshire had made a poor start when captain Lauren Winfield-Hill was bowled by Mary Taylor for six in just the third over. Boyce and Jonassen responded well, rebuilding the innings and taking the score to 95 before Boyce was caught by Chloe Brewer at cover off Hannah Baker for 37.
Baker’s legspin continued to trouble Yorkshire. She bowled Sterre Kalis for three before Ami Campbell fell for one, caught at deep point off Georgia Davis. That left the hosts struggling at 108 for four.
Blackwell then joined Jonassen and helped steady the innings. Their partnership moved Yorkshire towards a more competitive position, with Jonassen showing her quality throughout the middle overs.
Baker struck again when Blackwell was stumped off a wide for 33, and Maddie Ward was bowled by Phoebe Brett soon after for one. Jonassen reached her century from 95 balls in the 42nd over, but added only 10 more before being caught by Meg Austin off Davis while looking to accelerate.
Beth Langston made 18 and Rachel Slater added 14 to provide useful lower-order runs. Taylor and Davis then collected their third wickets before Jess Woolston was bowled first ball by Brett, leaving Yorkshire all out for 238 with four balls unused.
Warwickshire’s chase began in disastrous fashion when Georgia Redmayne was run out from the first ball of the innings after sharp work from Jonassen following a mis-field.
However, Yorkshire could not build on that early breakthrough. Amu Surenkumar and Meg Austin settled the chase with a calm second-wicket stand of 72 before Austin was trapped lbw by Claudie Cooper for 30.
Cooper struck again when Surenkumar was stumped for 45, and Jonassen then had Pavely stumped for three. At 85 for 4, Warwickshire were suddenly under pressure and Yorkshire had a route back into the contest.
Abigail Freeborn and Brewer then brought control back to the chase. Their partnership eased Warwickshire’s nerves as the target dropped below 100 and Yorkshire searched for another breakthrough.
Brewer reached her half-century in the 36th over, but another stumping by Winfield-Hill ended her innings on 56 and broke the stand at 93 runs, giving Jonassen her second wicket.
Freeborn followed soon after, bowled by Jonassen for 36, giving the Australian her third wicket of the innings. But by then Warwickshire were close enough, and they completed the chase with 16 balls remaining
