Essex Women delivered a commanding all-round display to secure a seven-wicket victory over Warwickshire Women at Chelmsford in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026, completing the chase with 34 balls remaining.
A strong batting effort, led by Cordelia Griffith and Alice Macleod, ensured Essex comfortably overhauled Warwickshire’s total despite a standout unbeaten innings from Abigail Freeborn.
Freeborn Anchors Warwickshire’s Innings
After being put in to bat, Warwickshire lost Meg Austin early, but Abigail Freeborn and Georgia Redmayne steadied the innings with a 79-run partnership for the second wicket.
Redmayne made 36 from 30 balls before being dismissed, while Freeborn carried on to anchor the innings. Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, she remained unbeaten on 86 from 56 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries as Warwickshire posted 164 for 8.
Eva Gray and Jodi Grewcock picked up two wickets each for Essex, while disciplined fielding, including two run-outs, helped restrict the visitors below the 170 mark.
Essex Begin Chase Aggressively
In response, Essex approached the target with intent. Grace Scrivens provided a quick start with 18 off 11 balls before falling with the score at 39.
Alice Macleod then took charge alongside Cordelia Griffith, and the pair built a match-defining partnership that put Essex firmly in control.
Match-Winning Partnership
Macleod scored 59 from 38 balls, hitting nine boundaries, while Griffith produced a dominant 68 off 37 deliveries, striking 12 fours and a six.
Their 119-run stand for the second wicket effectively ended Warwickshire’s hopes, as the required rate remained well within reach throughout the chase.
Although both batters fell late in the innings, Essex had already sealed control of the match. They eventually reached 166 for 3 in just 14.2 overs, completing a comfortable victory.
Warwickshire Unable to Contain Scoring
Warwickshire’s bowlers struggled to limit the scoring on a batting-friendly surface. Phoebe Brett took one wicket, while Millie Taylor claimed another, but the rest of the attack found it difficult to contain Essex’s aggressive batting approach.
With a clinical chase built on strong partnerships and consistent scoring, Essex Women secured a convincing win to continue their positive run in the competition.
