Sophie Reid and Orla Prendergast delivered standout performances as Dragons Women secured a commanding 41-run victory over Typhoons Women in the opening match of the Cricket Ireland Women’s T20 Super Series 2026 in Wicklow.
After being put in to bat, Dragons Women made an aggressive start through Reid and Alana Dalzell. The opening pair added 82 runs in just 8.2 overs, immediately putting the Typhoons on the back foot. Dalzell struck 31 off 22 balls with five boundaries before Aisling Lawlor broke the partnership, but Reid continued to anchor the innings with authority.
Momentum carried forward as Prendergast joined Reid at the crease, and the duo stitched together a crucial 77-run stand for the second wicket. Reid eventually fell for a superb 61 off 40 balls, run out by Lara Maritz, but the platform had already been firmly established. Prendergast maintained the tempo with a fluent 40 off 26 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, before Kia McCartney dismissed her in the 17th over.
Late contributions from Leah Paul (16), Sarah Forbes (9), and an unbeaten 14 from Abbi Harrison ensured Dragons finished strongly on 189/5 in their 20 overs. Georgina Dempsey was the pick of the Typhoons bowlers with 1/24, while Lawlor and McCartney also claimed a wicket each.
Chasing 190, Typhoons Women started positively, with Louise Little scoring 37 off 36 balls to keep the innings steady early on. Captain Rebecca Stokell then took charge with a well-made 45 off 32 deliveries, striking five boundaries and keeping the chase alive alongside Alice Tector and Maritz.
However, Dragons tightened their grip through disciplined bowling. Lara McBride delivered a crucial spell, picking up 2/27 and removing key batters at important stages. Freya Sargent also impressed with figures of 1/26, while Cara Murray claimed the vital wicket of Stokell.
As the required rate climbed, Typhoons lost momentum. Maritz contributed 25, but her run-out in the final over ended any hopes of a late comeback. Typhoons eventually finished on 148/5 from their 20 overs, falling 41 runs short.
With a complete all-round performance, Dragons Women opened their campaign in dominant fashion, combining strong partnerships with disciplined bowling to seal a convincing win.
