India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been named the Leading Woman Cricketer in the World for 2025 by the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, capping a standout year in which she played a decisive role in India’s success on the global stage. The honour was announced ahead of Wisden’s 163rd edition, with Deepti’s all-round excellence earning her the top recognition. Australia’s Mitchell Starc was named the Leading Men’s Cricketer.

Deepti’s defining performances came during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, where she emerged as one of the tournament’s most influential players. She played a central role in helping India secure their first Women’s ODI World Cup title, contributing consistently with both bat and ball throughout the competition.

In the final against South Africa, Deepti delivered a match-winning performance under pressure. She scored 58 off 58 balls to anchor the innings before returning with the ball to claim 5/39 in 9.3 overs, guiding India to a 52-run victory. Her all-round display proved decisive in the title clash.

Across the tournament, Deepti amassed 215 runs at an average of 30.71 and picked up 22 wickets at an average of 20.40. Her performances earned her the Player of the Tournament award, and she became the first player to record 200-plus runs and 20-plus wickets in a single World Cup edition.

    Dominance Across Formats in 2025

The 27-year-old carried her form beyond the World Cup, finishing 2025 as the leading wicket-taker in Women’s ODIs. She claimed 39 wickets at an average of 27.10, the highest tally recorded by any player during the year.

Her contributions with the bat were equally significant. Batting in the middle order, Deepti combined stability with the ability to accelerate when required, reinforcing her value as a dependable all-rounder.

    Wisden Honours and Recognition

Alongside the Leading Cricketers awards, Wisden also named its traditional Five Cricketers of the Year, recognising performances largely from England’s home summer. India’s Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Siraj were included in the list.

First published in 1864, the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack remains one of the most respected publications in the sport, often referred to as the “Bible of Cricket”. Its annual awards are regarded among the highest individual honours, recognising performances across all international formats over the calendar year.

Deepti’s recognition reflects not only her individual impact but also the growing prominence of women’s cricket on the global stage. Her contributions in a World Cup-winning campaign underline both her consistency and India’s rising strength in international women’s cricket.
