Surrey Women completed an impressive chase to defeat Durham Women in the 12th match of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 at The Oval, successfully overhauling a target of 257 in a contest shaped by partnerships, individual brilliance, and disciplined bowling efforts across both innings.

Durham Women, after being sent in to bat, endured an early setback when Emma Marlow was dismissed for 6, caught by Capsey off Tilly Corteen-Coleman, leaving them at 13/1 in 3.5 overs. Tahlia Wilson attempted to steady the innings but fell for 15 (27 balls), with Alice Monaghan accounting for her wicket. Despite the early pressure, Durham rebuilt through a key partnership.

Captain Hollie Armitage led from the front with a superb 106 off 123 deliveries, striking 14 boundaries. She was well supported by Mady Villiers, and together they added 112 runs for the third wicket, taking Durham from 61/2 to a strong position. Villiers contributed 55 off 70 balls before being dismissed by Kalea Moore. After Armitage’s departure at 208/5 in the 43.2 overs, wickets fell at regular intervals, slowing the late momentum.

    Durham Post Competitive Total

Bess Heath (14), Katherine Fraser (21), and Sophia Turner, who remained unbeaten on 18 off 10 balls, ensured Durham pushed towards a competitive total. However, Surrey’s bowlers kept things under control to prevent a bigger finish, restricting Durham to 256/8 from their 50 overs.

Tilly Corteen-Coleman (10-0-38-2) and Alice Capsey (5-0-20-1) were particularly effective, while Kalea Moore (10-0-50-2) and Alice Monaghan also made key contributions with the ball. Maitlan Brown delivered an economical spell of 10-1-50-1, and Danielle Gregory, though wicketless, maintained pressure throughout.

    Early Setbacks Test Surrey’s Chase

Surrey’s reply got off to a difficult start as Paige Scholfield was dismissed for 4 in the opening over by Lauren Filer. The situation worsened when Alice Monaghan (11) and Alice Capsey (13) fell cheaply, reducing Surrey to 35/3. Filer led the attack brilliantly, finishing with figures of 10-0-59-5 and keeping the hosts under sustained pressure.

The momentum began to shift when Kira Chathli and Danni Wyatt-Hodge came together following the dismissal of Alice Davidson-Richards (5). The pair produced a crucial 90-run partnership for the fifth wicket, rebuilding the innings from a precarious 62/4.

Chathli played a composed innings of 58 off 58 balls, while Wyatt-Hodge took control with a commanding 96 off 83 deliveries, including 13 boundaries. Their stand brought Surrey firmly back into the contest.

    Wyatt-Hodge Leads Clinical Finish

Even after Chathli departed at 145/5, Wyatt-Hodge continued to drive the chase forward. Jemima Spence added a brisk 27 off 20 balls to further reduce the required rate before falling as Filer claimed her fifth wicket.

Wyatt-Hodge fell just short of a century, dismissed for 96 at 254/7 in 36.2 overs, with Surrey needing only three more runs. Maitlan Brown (27*) and Kalea Moore (4*) then completed the chase with ease, taking Surrey to 258/7 in 36.4 overs and sealing victory with 80 balls remaining.

For Durham, aside from Filer’s five-wicket haul, Mady Villiers (1/33) and Katie Levick (1/67) picked up a wicket each, while Grace Thompson and Sophia Turner went wicketless, and Katherine Fraser had limited involvement.

In the end, Surrey Women’s recovery from early setbacks and strong middle-order contributions proved decisive, as they executed a controlled and efficient chase to secure a convincing win in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026.
