Kira Chathli and Maitlan Brown combined with bat and ball to guide Surrey to a three-wicket victory over Lancashire in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 at the Kia Oval.
Surrey chased down 247 with four overs to spare, thanks largely to Chathli’s unbeaten 88 and Brown’s 62, after the pair put on a decisive 134-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Earlier, Brown’s 3 for 46 alongside Dani Gregory’s 3 for 42 helped restrict Lancashire to 246 for 9, with Eve Jones leading the scoring with 69.
Lancashire Post Competitive Total
Asked to bat in overcast conditions, Lancashire suffered an early setback when Seren Smale was bowled by Brown. Jones and Ellie Threlkeld responded with a 51-run partnership, before Threlkeld fell for 20 after hitting a long hop straight to point.
Further wickets followed as Maddie Penna was bowled by Gregory without scoring and Fi Morris was stumped, leaving Lancashire at 83 for 4. Jones continued to anchor the innings, reaching her half-century with a boundary off Gregory.
Grace Johnson supported with 39 from 56 before being dismissed by a one-handed catch from Paige Scholfield at midwicket. Scholfield had earlier taken a catch to remove Jones, who top-scored with 69.
Late contributions from Ailsa Lister (29 off 36) and Kate Cross (25 off 20) helped push the total towards 250, aided by 21 wides, though Lancashire ultimately finished just short on 246 for 9.
Surrey Recover After Early Wobble
Surrey began their chase at pace, crossing 50 in the seventh over with Alice Monaghan striking freely and Sophia Dunkley adding 30 from 23 balls.
However, the momentum shifted as Lancashire claimed three wickets in 14 balls. Dunkley and Scholfield were removed by Grace Potts, while Johnson dismissed Monaghan for 26.
Alice Davidson-Richards contributed 23 from 25 balls to steady the innings, but her dismissal by Cross left Surrey needing a rebuilding effort.
Chathli and Brown Seal the Chase
Chathli and Brown then combined to turn the match decisively in Surrey’s favour. Chathli anchored the partnership, rotating the strike and capitalising on loose deliveries, reaching her half-century from 63 balls. Brown followed soon after, reaching her fifty just five balls later.
Brown was eventually dismissed after offering a return catch to Fi Morris with the target within reach. Surrey lost two more late wickets, but Chathli remained composed, finishing the game by striking Cross for four over midwicket.
Surrey completed the chase with four overs remaining, handing Lancashire their third consecutive defeat in the competition.
