Surrey Women produced a composed yet aggressive chase to defeat Lancashire Women by six wickets under lights at The Oval in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026. Chasing a target of 186, the hosts reached the total with seven balls to spare, led by a dominant innings from captain Bryony Smith.
Smith struck a commanding 71 off 35 deliveries, hitting three sixes and ten fours, while Alice Davidson-Richards provided steady support with an unbeaten 47 to guide Surrey home.
Lancashire Set Strong Target
Earlier, Lancashire Women posted 185 for 7, built around a rapid 56 from 31 balls by Eve Jones. She set the tone early, taking on the bowlers and racing to a half-century in just 26 deliveries.
Jones and Darcey Carter (35) shared a 97-run opening stand, putting Surrey under pressure from the outset. After their dismissals, Meg Lanning added impetus with 40 from 22 balls on debut, striking boundaries regularly to maintain momentum.
Despite the onslaught, Surrey’s fielding effort stood out, with key boundary saves and two run-outs, including Paige Scholfield’s direct hit to dismiss Seren Smale. Ryana MacDonald-Gay, returning from a back injury, was the most economical bowler despite finishing wicketless with figures of 0 for 23.
Smith Leads the Chase
Surrey’s reply began aggressively, with Smith attacking from the outset. She struck multiple boundaries early, while Kira Chathli also contributed before being dismissed.
The defining moment came through a 71-run partnership between Smith and Davidson-Richards, which shifted control firmly in Surrey’s favour. Smith continued to find the boundary regularly before being dismissed by Kate Cross with the score at 108 for 2.
Late Contributions Seal Win
Davidson-Richards ensured there were no late setbacks, anchoring the chase with a composed unbeaten innings. Laura Harris added a quick 11 from six balls, including a boundary and a six, while Jemima Spence contributed 31 off 22 deliveries with five fours.
Their partnerships kept Surrey ahead of the required rate and brought them within reach of the target before the hosts completed the chase comfortably.
With a well-paced innings and key contributions across the lineup, Surrey Women secured a strong win in a high-scoring contest.
