Malaysia Women delivered a controlled all-round performance to defeat Hong Kong Women by 34 runs in the fifth Group A match of the Asian Games Women’s Qualifier 2026 at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. In a low-scoring contest dominated by bowlers, Malaysia showed composure with both bat and ball and defended a modest total through steady pressure and regular breakthroughs.

After Hong Kong Women chose to field first, Malaysia made a careful start but lost an early wicket when Ainna Hamizah Hashim was trapped lbw by Maryam Bibi for 8 from 8 balls at 18/1 in the 3.1 over. Winitfred Duraisingam then tried to stabilise the innings with a patient knock during a phase where scoring was difficult.

Malaysia briefly gained momentum through a 16-run partnership between Winitfred and Elsa Hunter. Elsa added intent with a quick 12 from 8 balls, including two boundaries, before Kary Chan dismissed her to leave Malaysia at 34/2 after 5.1 overs.

The innings continued to move unevenly. Captain Mas Elysa struggled to score freely and made only 2 from 14 balls before falling to Emma Lai. Winitfred’s fighting 35 from 46 deliveries ended in the 15th over, but her innings, which included one boundary, was important in keeping Malaysia competitive.

Winitfred and Mahirah Izzati Ismail added a valuable 37-run stand, giving Malaysia a platform after the slowdown in the middle overs. Mahirah made an important 20 from 19 balls with two boundaries before becoming Emma Lai’s second wicket.

Hong Kong’s bowlers maintained discipline throughout the innings. Emma Lai was the standout performer with 2/18 from four overs, while Kary Chan kept the pressure on with an economical 1/10 from four overs. Maryam Bibi took 1/17, Amanda Cheung claimed 1/15, and Shing Chan also picked up a wicket.

Despite regular wickets, Malaysia found late resistance through an unbeaten 15-run partnership between Dhanusri Muhunan, who made 6* from 10 balls, and Nur Dania Syuhada, who scored 9* from 13. Extras also contributed 10 runs as Malaysia finished on 103/6 from 20 overs.

Hong Kong Collapse In The Chase

Chasing 104, Hong Kong Women suffered a poor start when opener Shanzeen Shahzad was dismissed for a duck by Nur Dania Syuhada with only one run on the board. Captain Natasha Miles tried to respond with a quick 6 from 6 balls, but Malaysia’s bowlers soon tightened control.

At 14/2, Hong Kong needed a rebuilding partnership. Shing Chan and Kary Chan attempted to steady the innings with an 11-run stand, but the pressure continued to rise as wickets kept falling.

Shing top-scored with 13 from 21 balls but could not accelerate, while Maryam Bibi battled for 17 from 33 deliveries in a patient but ineffective resistance. Hong Kong were unable to build meaningful partnerships as Malaysia maintained excellent discipline.

The chase slipped from 25/3 to 34/4 and then 44/5 by the drinks break in 9.5 overs, leaving Hong Kong with too much to do. Amanda Cheung made 7, Emma Lai scored 3, Hiu Ying Cheung added 3, and Alison Siu contributed 6, but none could shift the momentum as wickets continued to fall.

    Malaysia Bowlers Finish The Job

Malaysia Women’s bowlers shared responsibility superbly in a clinical display. Nur Dania Syuhada led the attack with excellent figures of 3/18 from four overs, striking key blows through Hong Kong’s batting lineup.

Winitfred Duraisingam supported well with 2/15 from four overs, while Elsa Hunter returned 1/14 from her four. Ainna Hamizah Hashim was both economical and dangerous, taking 3/9 from four overs, and Mahirah Izzati Ismail completed the innings with 1/4 from 1.2 overs.

Hong Kong Women were bowled out for 69 in 18.2 overs as Malaysia Women secured a convincing 34-run victory.
