The Costa Rica Cricket Federation has confirmed that Costa Rica Women will host Chile Women for a three-match T20 International (T20I) series this week, marking an important moment for women’s cricket in the ICC Americas region.
All fixtures will be played at the Los Reyes Polo Club in Guacima. The series begins on Friday, April 24, followed by the second match on Saturday, April 25, before concluding on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
First-Ever Meeting Between the Two Sides
This series will mark the first time Costa Rica and Chile face each other in a T20I. Despite both teams being part of the developing cricket landscape in the Americas, they have never previously met in this format, making this a new chapter for both sides as they aim to progress in regional standings.
Costa Rica Eye Improvement at Home
Costa Rica enter the series looking to build on limited success in the format. Since 2019, they have registered one win in 11 T20I matches, with that victory coming against Belize in 2019 when they posted 113.
They have also been involved in a rivalry with Mexico but are yet to record a win in five meetings, including one tied match. With a team batting average of 10.26, playing at home offers an opportunity to convert competitive performances into positive results.
Chile Return After Long Absence
For Chile, the series represents a return to international cricket after their last appearance in October 2023, when they faced Argentina in a bilateral contest. Known as Las Loicas, Chile have shown their potential in the past, including a run of three consecutive wins over Mexico during 2018-2019.
Chile’s overall T20I record stands at four wins from 12 matches, and they hold a higher team high score of 147 compared to Costa Rica. A key factor will be how they adjust after an extended period without international matches.
Series Schedule
- 1st T20I: April 24, 2026
- 2nd T20I: April 25, 2026
- 3rd T20I: April 26, 2026
- Venue: Los Reyes Polo Club, Guacima, Costa Rica
With both teams set to meet for the first time, the series promises a competitive contest as Costa Rica and Chile look to establish early dominance in this new rivalry.
