The tournament opened with Sunrisers Leeds defeating MI London by seven wickets. MI London managed 107/8 from their 100 balls despite useful contributions from Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Hayley Matthews. Sunrisers’ bowling attack, led by Dani Gibson, Hannah Baker and Deepti Sharma, claimed two wickets each before Phoebe Litchfield’s quickfire 43 and Annabel Sutherland’s unbeaten 30 guided their side to victory with 31 balls remaining.

The second match saw Southern Brave edge past Welsh Fire by eight runs. Southern Brave posted 126/7, and although Welsh Fire fought hard in the chase, disciplined death bowling from Lauren Bell ensured Brave defended their total successfully.

Manchester Super Giants produced one of the most convincing displays of the week in the third fixture. After bowling out London Spirit for just 80, thanks to Ryana MacDonald-Gay’s outstanding four-wicket haul, the Giants comfortably chased 86/3 in only 59 balls. Meg Lanning, Paige Scholfield and Richa Ghosh all contributed during the straightforward chase.

The biggest victory of the opening round came from Trent Rockets, who crushed Birmingham Phoenix by nine wickets. Georgia Elwiss and Samantha Bates shared six wickets as Phoenix were dismissed for just 64. Sophia Dunkleythen blasted an unbeaten 43 off only 17 balls, helping the Rockets complete the chase in just 31 balls.

Southern Brave continued their winning start in Match 5, defeating Sunrisers Leeds by five wickets. Issy Wong starred with the ball, taking 3/15 to restrict Sunrisers to 116, before Brave completed a composed chase to make it two wins from two.

The final game of the week saw Welsh Fire bounce back in style with a commanding 60-run victory over MI London. Captain Sophie Devine struck 52 to help her side post 177/4, the highest total of the tournament so far. Gracie Potts then claimed 3/24 as MI London were bowled out for 117.

    The Hundred Women’s Match Highlights

Week 1 showcased several memorable individual performances. Ryana MacDonald-Gay’s four wickets dismantled London Spirit, while Sophia Dunkley’s explosive unbeaten innings powered Trent Rockets to a huge win. Sophie Devine also reminded everyone of her class with a match-winning half-century for Welsh Fire.

Southern Brave impressed with their balanced performances, winning matches while defending and chasing totals. Their consistency has made them one of the early favourites.

    The Hundred Women’s Standings

After the opening week, Southern Brave lead the The Hundred Women’s standings with two victories from two matches. Trent Rockets and Manchester Super Giants also made strong starts, boosting their net run rate through dominant wins.

Meanwhile, Welsh Fire recovered from an opening defeat with the biggest win of the week, while Sunrisers Leeds enjoyed mixed results. MI London endured a difficult start after losing both of their opening matches.

With several teams already showing title-winning potential, Week 1 has laid the foundation for what promises to be another exciting edition of The Hundred Women’s competition. Fans can expect even more intense battles as the race for the knockout places gathers momentum in the coming weeks.
