Sophie Devine and Georgia Wareham delivered outstanding all-round performances as Welsh Fire claimed their first victory of the Women’s Hundred season. They registered their 60-run win over MI London in Cardiff, in the 2nd game of the first double-header day.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Sophie Molineux powered Southern Brave to their second consecutive victory, a 5-wicket win against Sunrisers Leeds earlier in the day on July 25 .

Sophie Devine and Georgia Wareham shared an unbeaten 79-run partnership before taking two wickets each as Welsh Fire posted 177 for 4 and then dismissed the visitors for 117.

Voll and McCaughan Provide Solid Platform

Welsh Fire made a strong start after batting first, with Georgia Voll and Ella McCaughan laying the foundations for a competitive total. Voll struck 42 from 26 deliveries, while McCaughan added 27 from 23 balls as the hosts built early momentum.

Devine and Wareham then took control of the innings with a destructive fourth-wicket stand.

Devine smashed an unbeaten 52 from 29 balls at a strike rate of 179.31, while Wareham was even more aggressive, finishing 43 not out from only 20 deliveries at a strike rate of 215.

Their unbeaten partnership lifted Welsh Fire to 177 for 4, the third-highest team total in the history of the Women’s Hundred.

Welsh Fire Bowlers Complete Dominant Win

Devine and Wareham carried their batting form into the second innings by claiming two wickets each.

Grace Potts led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Sophia Smale also picked up two. Em Arlott contributed one dismissal as MI London struggled to build any meaningful partnerships.

The visitors were eventually bowled out for 117, handing Welsh Fire an emphatic 60-run victory.

Wareham Named Player of the Match

Wareham was named Player of the Match after her unbeaten 43 and two-wicket bowling performance. Reflecting on her partnership with Devine and the conditions in Cardiff, she said:

“Really nice wicket and a fast outfield. Batting with Soph at the end, pretty fun, and the wind was a big factor too.”

She also praised the team’s disciplined bowling effort.

“Wind going downhill… trying to go into the wicket. Everyone who had a ball in their hand did their job. Keeping the stumps in play.”

Welsh Fire will next face Trent Rockets in Cardiff on July 29 as they aim to build on their first win of the campaign.
