Indian spinner Nallapureddy Sree Charani has received another major recognition for her remarkable achievements in international cricket. The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) felicitated the young cricketer at a special ceremony held at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada, celebrating her rise as one of India’s brightest cricket stars. The Sree Charani honoured by APGENCO event recognized her outstanding performances for the national team and her historic achievement of becoming the first woman cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to represent India in a Test match at Lord’s.

The honour comes after a memorable period in Charani’s career, during which she established herself as one of India’s leading spinners across all formats.

    Grand Felicitation at Vidyut Soudha

Sree Charani latest news: the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation organized a grand felicitation ceremony in Vijayawada to celebrate the spinner’s achievements.

The event held special significance because Charani’s father, Chandrasekhar Reddy, works at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project in Kadapa under APGENCO. The ceremony recognized not only Charani’s success but also the support provided by her family throughout her cricket journey.

APGENCO Managing Director S. Nagalakshmi, IAS, praised the young spinner for bringing pride to the power sector community. She also drew comparisons with former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, whose father was also associated with the power sector, highlighting the strong sporting legacy within the community.

    Family’s Role in Her Journey

During the Sree Charani Honoured by APGENCO ceremony, special appreciation was also given to Charani’s maternal uncle, Kishore Kumar Reddy.

He played an important role in shaping her sporting career after encouraging her to switch from badminton and Kho Kho to cricket. That decision eventually helped Charani become one of India’s most successful young spinners.

Speaking at the event, Charani thanked APGENCO for honouring her at her father’s workplace. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout her journey and promised to continue delivering strong performances for India in the future.

    Sree Charani’s Remarkable Rise

Sree Charani latest news reflect her incredible rise in Indian cricket over the last two years.

Hailing from Yerramalapalli village in the YSR Kadapa district, Charani became the first woman cricketer from Kadapa to represent India. She was picked by Delhi Capitals for ₹55 lakh during the 2025 Women’s Premier League auction before making both her ODI and T20I debuts later that year.

She played a crucial role in India’s successful 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup campaign, finishing as the fourth highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in nine matches.

Charani continued her outstanding form in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, where she emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets in just five matches.

Her achievements reached another milestone when she became the first woman cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to make her Test debut for India during the historic match against England at Lord’s.

    Recognition Continues to Grow

Besides Sree Charani honoured by APGENCO ceremony, the Andhra Pradesh government had already rewarded the spinner for her international success. She received a cash award of ₹2.5 crore, a 1,000 square yard plot in Kadapa, and a Group 1 officer post in recognition of her contributions to India’s World Cup triumph.

As the Sree Charani latest news continue to make headlines, the talented spinner remains an inspiration for young cricketers across Andhra Pradesh. With her impressive performances and growing list of honours, Charani looks set to play a key role in Indian women’s cricket for many years to come.
