Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and her squad remain in South Africa following their white-ball tour, as escalating cross-border tensions in the Middle East have led to extensive airspace closures, disrupting their return plans. The travel uncertainty comes shortly after Pakistan concluded the series with a commanding 119-run win over the hosts in the third ODI.
The tour, hosted by Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa from February 10 to March 1, 2026, featured closely contested cricket across both formats. South Africa claimed the three-match T20I series 2-1 before securing the ODI series with victories of 37 runs in the opening game and 16 runs in the second. Pakistan responded strongly in the final ODI at Kingsmead, registering 306/8 in 50 overs — their highest first-innings total overseas in the format — to avoid a series sweep. Despite that result, the Proteas sealed the ODI series 2-1.
Pakistan’s decisive performance in the third ODI was built on half-centuries from Sadaf Shamas and Fatima Sana. Their efforts laid the platform for a clinical bowling display that dismissed South Africa for 187 in 36.2 overs, ensuring the visitors finished the tour with momentum.
Travel Plans in Limbo
Attention has now shifted from on-field action to logistical uncertainty. According to Geo Super, the team had been scheduled to travel from Durban to Pakistan via Dubai on Monday night. However, the closure of regional airports has delayed their departure.
Sources indicated that the squad’s return will depend on the official reopening of airspace routes. Should the disruptions continue, the Fatima Sana-led side may be required to remain in Durban for an extended period.
Leadership and Uncertainty
Fatima Sana’s contributions during the series, including her half-century in the final ODI, highlighted Pakistan’s determination against a strong South African side. Yet the team now finds itself waiting for clarity amid developments beyond the boundary.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued a statement so far. Meanwhile, the players remain in Durban as they await updates regarding their travel arrangements.
