Meg Lanning has been named Melbourne Stars Player of the Season for WBBL 2025–26 following a consistent and impactful campaign in the Women’s Big Bash League. The experienced Australian batter played a central role in the Stars’ batting lineup, delivering reliable performances throughout the tournament.

Lanning stood out for her ability to provide stability at the top of the order in a format often defined by unpredictability. Across the season, she consistently laid strong foundations, adapting to different match situations whether setting totals or guiding chases.

    Century Highlights Standout Season

A defining moment of her campaign came with a remarkable innings of 135, her highest score across 11 WBBL seasons. The knock combined measured shot selection with timely acceleration, reflecting both technical control and match awareness.

The innings proved to be one of the standout performances of the season, reinforcing her status as a key figure in the Stars’ batting unit.

    Consistency Across the Tournament

Lanning finished the season with 479 runs from 10 matches, including one century and three half-centuries. Her strike rate of 136.07 highlighted her ability to maintain scoring momentum while anchoring the innings.

Rather than slowing the pace, she balanced stability with attacking intent, rotating strike effectively and capitalising on scoring opportunities. This approach allowed Melbourne Stars to remain competitive in closely contested matches.

    Career Numbers Add Context

Over her WBBL career, Lanning has accumulated 3,646 runs, maintaining an average of 40.06 and a strike rate of 122. Her performances in the 2025–26 season added to an already strong record in the competition.

    Influence Beyond Runs

Beyond her individual contributions, Lanning’s presence had a broader impact on the team. Her experience at the international level translated into leadership on the field, offering guidance to younger players and helping maintain composure in pressure situations.

Her ability to combine consistency with leadership made her a key figure for Melbourne Stars, and the Player of the Season award reflects her overall influence during WBBL 2025–26.
