In a significant step forward for women’s cricket in Mumbai, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has sold three franchises for the inaugural Women’s T20 Mumbai League, generating over ₹4 crore through the bidding process.

Structured along the lines of the IPL-style men’s T20 Mumbai League, the women’s competition will feature seven matches and aims to showcase the city’s extensive cricketing base. The bidding figures highlight increasing commercial confidence in the women’s game.

The tournament is tentatively scheduled to run from June 1 to 15, alongside the men’s league following IPL 2026. Participation will be limited to women cricketers representing Mumbai’s 55 affiliated clubs. Jemimah Rodrigues, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare are expected to feature as icon players, subject to availability, while the remainder of the squads will be assembled through an auction. The format reflects Mumbai’s long-established and expansive club structure, which sets it apart from many other state associations.

    Franchise Bidding Details

The auction concluded on Saturday with the following results:

    • PRS Infraprojects LLP – ₹2.25 crore (Rank 1)
    • Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd – ₹1.09 crore (Rank 2)
    • World Star Sporting Private Limited – ₹79 lakh (Rank 3)

These companies will obtain operational rights for the teams once agreements are finalised, in accordance with the decision of the T20 Mumbai Governing Council.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik described the outcome as a landmark development for the sport in the city.

“The overwhelming response to the bidding process for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League is a strong endorsement of our vision to elevate women’s cricket in Mumbai. The participation of reputed corporate groups reflects the growing commercial confidence in the women’s game. We are committed to building a competitive and professionally managed league that provides a robust platform for emerging talent.”

T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta also emphasised the importance of the milestone.

“The successful conclusion of the bidding process marks an important milestone for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League. The strong bids received underline the league’s credibility and potential. We look forward to working closely with the franchise owners to deliver a high-quality tournament that showcases the depth of women’s cricketing talent in Mumbai.”

While additional operational details are yet to be announced, the ₹4 crore outcome underscores Mumbai’s ambition to lead the way in domestic women’s franchise cricket. The league is positioned to provide a structured platform for local talent and could serve as a model for other associations across the country.
