West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2026 after producing an outstanding all-round performance during her team’s ODI series against Ireland. Matthews was rewarded for her match-winning contributions with both bat and ball as the West Indies completed a 3– 0 series sweep.

The award is another major achievement in Matthews’ career. It is the fifth time she has won the monthly ICC honour, extending her record as the player with the most ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards since the award was introduced in January 2021.

    Hayley Matthews Dominates Against Ireland

The Hayley Matthews Player of the Month award was built around her outstanding performances during the three-match ODI series. Matthews scored 265 runs at an average of 132.50 and a strike rate of 117.25. She also took seven wickets at an average of 17.57 and an economy rate of 4.10.

Her best performance came in the opening ODI. Matthews scored an unbeaten 159 and also took three wickets for 52 runs. Her innings played a major role in a high pressure chase, with Matthews also sharing a record partnership with Realeanna Grimmond.

She continued her excellent form in the second ODI by scoring another century. Her 100 helped West Indies seal the series, while she also contributed with the ball by taking two wickets for 34 runs.

Matthews did not make a major contribution with the bat in the third ODI, scoring six runs. However, she still played an important role with the ball, taking two wickets for 37 runs as the West Indies completed the whitewash.

Fifth ICC Monthly Award for Matthews

This Hayley Matthews ICC award is particularly significant because it strengthens her position as one of the most consistent players in women’s international cricket.

Matthews has now won the ICC monthly award five times, the most by any player since the honour began. Her latest success came after she competed against England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sri Lanka batter Harshitha Samarawickrama.

The award reflects Matthews’ ability to influence matches in more than one way. Her batting has made her one of the leading players in women’s cricket, while her off-spin continues to provide the West Indies team with an important bowling option.

    Historic West Indies Clean Sweep

Matthews’ achievement was part of a historic month for West Indies cricket. She won the women’s award while Justin Greaves claimed the men’s ICC Player of the Month honour.

It marked a clean sweep for the West Indies across both categories and underlined the country’s strong performances during the month.

For Matthews, however, the biggest achievement was the team’s success in Ireland. Her performances helped the West Indies complete a 3–0 away series victory and earn valuable points in the ICC Women’s Championship.

Matthews Continues to Set the Standard

The latest ICC women’s cricket awards success adds another major honour to Matthews’ career. Her ability to score big runs, take important wickets and lead the West Indies makes her one of the most important players in the women’s game.

Her July numbers tell the story clearly. Two centuries, 265 runs, seven wickets and a series whitewash made Matthews the standout player of the contest.

With the West Indies looking to secure their place in future major tournaments, Matthews’ form will remain crucial. The ICC Women’s Player of the Month July 2026 award is another recognition of her impact and confirms her status as one of the leading all-rounders in international women’s cricket.
