India Women produced a dominant performance against Sri Lanka Women in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final, winning by 72 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The victory helped India secure a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after another impressive all-round display.

This win in Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final resulted from India posting 183/5 in their 20 overs before bowling Sri Lanka out for 111. Shafali Verma was named Player of the Match after scoring a brilliant 68 from 39 balls, while Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma led India’s bowling attack with seven wickets between them.

India Make Fast Start in Final

India won the toss and elected to bat, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma immediately putting Sri Lanka’s bowlers under pressure. The pair produced an outstanding 129-run opening partnership in less than 13 overs, setting the platform for a huge total.

Shafali was particularly aggressive during the opening stages. She reached her half-century from just 24 balls, setting the record for the fastest fifty in Women’s Asia Cup history. She eventually finished with 68 runs from 39 deliveries at a strike rate of 174.35.

Mandhana provided the perfect support at the other end and scored 59 from 39 balls. Sri Lanka managed to slow India’s scoring after the dismissals of both openers, but India still finished strongly.

Gunalan Kamalini provided the late acceleration with an unbeaten 15 from just five balls. Her cameo helped India reach 183/5 and gave Sri Lanka a difficult target of 184.

Sri Lanka Collapse Under India’s Spin Attack

Sri Lanka’s chase got off to a poor start when Imesha Dulani was dismissed in the opening over. However, captain Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne responded with an important 58 run partnership for the second wicket.

Athapaththu looked dangerous during her 36-run innings and helped Sri Lanka remain competitive during the early part of the chase. India’s breakthrough eventually came in the 10th over when Deepti Sharma dismissed the Sri Lankan captain.

That wicket changed the game. Sri Lanka struggled to deal with India’s spin attack, with Shree Charani causing major problems through the middle and lower overs.

Charani finished with outstanding figures of 4/20, while Deepti Sharma claimed 3/19. The duo shared seven wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111 on the final ball of their innings.

    Key Moments from the Final

One of the biggest Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final highlights was Shafali Verma’s explosive powerplay. India’s 57 runs during the first six overs immediately put Sri Lanka under pressure and allowed the opening pair to build a massive partnership.

Athapaththu’s dismissal was another turning point. Sri Lanka had started to build momentum, but Deepti’s breakthrough opened the door for India’s bowlers to take control.

Shree Charani then delivered a match-defining spell. Her four wickets for only 20 runs prevented Sri Lanka from recovering and completed India’s dominant bowling performance.

India Claim Eighth Asia Cup Title

The Women’s Asia Cup final scorecard showed a clear difference between the two teams. India scored 183/5, powered by Shafali’s 68 and Mandhana’s 59, while Sri Lanka could manage only 111.

India, the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 winner, lifted the trophy for a record-extending eighth time. Shafali finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 236 runs, while Deepti Sharma ended as the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets.

The victory also provided redemption for India after their defeat against Sri Lanka in the 2024 Asia Cup final, making the 2026 triumph even more significant.
