The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between Australia and the West Indies witnessed a frightening moment even before the first ball was bowled. Veteran all-rounder Deandra Dottin suffered a sudden medical emergency during the pre-match national anthems, leaving teammates and fans deeply concerned.

The West Indies Women latest news confirm that Dottin was able to return to the field later in the match after receiving medical attention, with captain Hayley Matthews praising her courage following the incident.

Deandra Dottin Medical Emergency Shocks Teammates

Deandra Dottin medical emergency occurred on the boundary edge during the national anthems at The Oval.

The 35-year-old suddenly collapsed and almost passed out, needing her teammates to quickly assist her. Dottin was physically carried off the field before being taken to the stadium’s medical room for treatment.

According to reports, she spent around 30 minutes under medical observation and was even seen leaving the area in a wheelchair at one stage. The exact cause of the medical emergency has not been publicly disclosed by the West Indies team management.

The unexpected incident created an anxious atmosphere inside the stadium as players from both teams waited for updates on one of the Caribbean side’s most experienced cricketer.

    Hayley Matthews Reacts

Speaking after the match, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews admitted the incident was frightening for everyone involved.

Matthews said seeing Dottin almost pass out during the national anthem was a scary experience because she is known as one of the toughest players in the squad.

She explained that Dottin had suffered a medical emergency and praised her determination to return to the field despite the situation. Matthews also highlighted the fighting spirit shown by the experienced all-rounder after receiving treatment.

Her comments reflected both the concern within the team and the admiration for Dottin’s resilience.

    Remarkable Comeback During the Match

The biggest surprise came later in the innings when despite the earlier Deandra Dottin medical emergency, she returned to bat.

West Indies were struggling at 83 for 6 against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack when Dottin walked out at number eight.

Showing incredible courage, she produced a quickfire 26 off just 16 balls, including three boundaries in her final seven deliveries.

Her aggressive innings helped lift the West Indies to 125 for 7, giving the team a more competitive total after a difficult batting performance.

Although Australia comfortably chased down the target with seven overs remaining to book a place in the final, Dottin’s brave return became one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.

    West Indies Women Latest ews
