Australia continued their incredible record in ICC tournaments with a dominant eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at The Kia Oval in London. The defending champions outplayed their opponents in every department to book their place in another World Cup final at Lord’s.

In this Australia vs West Indies Women review, we look at the key moments, standout performances, and the biggest talking points from an impressive Australian victory.

    Australia Bowlers Set the Tone

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that paid off almost immediately. Their bowlers kept the West Indies batters under constant pressure and never allowed them to build momentum.

Captain Hayley Matthews tried to hold the innings together with 30 runs from 28 balls, while Deandra Dottin added a quick 26 from just 16 deliveries. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to accelerate against Australia’s attack.

West Indies finished with 125 for 7 in their 20 overs, a total that looked below par on a good batting surface.

Ashleigh Gardner delivered an outstanding spell, taking 2 wickets for just 13 runs. Her control with the ball made scoring difficult and played a huge role in limiting the West Indies total.

Beth Mooney Leads a Comfortable Chase

Australia never looked under pressure while chasing 126. Opener Beth Mooney got the innings off to a flying start with positive stroke play from the very beginning.

Mooney played a superb knock of 61 runs from only 36 balls, finding the boundary regularly and keeping the required rate well under control. Her innings ensured Australia stayed firmly in command throughout the chase.

After Mooney’s dismissal, Ashleigh Gardner continued her excellent day by scoring an unbeaten 35 from just 20 balls. She finished the match in style as Australia reached 127 for 2 in only 13 overs, sealing victory with 42 balls remaining.

Ashleigh Gardner Shines on the Big Stage

The Player of the Match award deservedly went to Ashleigh Gardner for her outstanding all-round performance.

She first helped restrict West Indies with figures of 2 for 13 before returning to play an unbeaten match-winning innings during the chase. Her contribution highlighted why she remains one of Australia’s most valuable players in white-ball cricket.

Gardner’s calm performance under pressure once again showed the depth and quality that Australia possess in major tournaments.

    Key Takeaways

This Australia vs West Indies semifinal review showed why Australia remain one of the strongest teams in women’s cricket. Their bowlers controlled the game from the start, and their batters completed the chase with confidence and authority.

Beth Mooney’s attacking half-century gave Australia the perfect platform, while Ashleigh Gardner produced one of the best all-round displays of the tournament. West Indies showed brief moments of promise through Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin, but they could not match Australia’s consistency.

Among the biggest Women World Cup highlights, Australia’s clinical display stood out as they comfortably secured another place in the final. Their balanced performance with both bat and ball will give them plenty of confidence heading into the title clash at Lord’s.

Overall, this Australia vs West Indies Women review reflected a one-sided contest in which the defending champions proved once again why they are the team to beat on the biggest stage.
