Malawi Women produced a dominant performance to defeat Lesotho Women by nine wickets in the 17th match of the Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026 in Gaborone, completing the chase with 75 balls remaining.

The victory was built on a disciplined bowling effort followed by a controlled chase, with Praise Maziya playing a key role with both ball and bat.

Malawi bowlers dismantle Lesotho for 40

Lesotho Women struggled to build any momentum after being put under early pressure. Pabalio Pheko was dismissed for a duck by Sugeni Kananji in the second over, and Kananelo Molapo followed after scoring 3 off 20 balls, leaving the side at 19 for 2.

Further setbacks came quickly as Boitumelo Tlali fell at 3 for 20, while Makopano Mabathoana was dismissed for 0. Captain Maneo Nyabela attempted to steady the innings with 6 off 14 balls but was bowled by Maziya, who led the bowling attack.

The collapse continued through the middle and lower order, with wickets falling at regular intervals and no partnerships developing. Lesotho were eventually bowled out for just 40 in 17.4 overs, with extras contributing 25 runs.

Maziya delivered an outstanding spell, finishing with 3 wickets for just 2 runs in 4 overs. Lucy Malino and Sugeni Kananji picked up two wickets each, while Bridget Kasinja and Christina Bwanali added one apiece to complete a clinical bowling performance.

    Calm chase seals comfortable victory

Chasing 41, Malawi Women approached the target with composure. Sophina Chinawa and Euless Chiralile began steadily, putting on an opening stand before Chinawa was dismissed for 5 off 14 balls.

From there, Chiralile and Maziya guided the chase without further setbacks. Chiralile remained unbeaten on 10 off 22 balls, while Maziya scored 14* off 10 deliveries, including two boundaries.

The pair added an unbroken 27-run partnership to take Malawi to 41 for 1 in 7.3 overs, sealing a comfortable win.

    Lesotho struggle to make impact

Lesotho’s bowling lacked breakthroughs, with Boitumelo Phelenyane claiming the only wicket. Although Maneo Nyabela and Boitumelo Tlali bowled economically, the low total left little margin for error.

Malawi’s all-round performance ensured a one-sided result, with Maziya’s contribution proving decisive in both innings.
